GM Borla Arrives Today - Cold Feet

Man I must be getting old. Do I really prefer a quiet truck? After two exhaust systems and an intake went on my truck and came right back off I had decided to just stick with stock. Then I stumbled on an open box never installed GM Borla system that was so cheap I almost hurt my thumb hitting the Buy it Now button. Well it will be delivered today and I have this weird non-excited - going to make another mistake feeling in my stomach. Tell me I am wrong and life will be good once installed? Did I mention my wife will flip out when she the now 3rd exhaust box in the driveway? Yikes.

Personally, I thought the GM exhaust was very quiet.

Don't get me wrong you will hear it.. it's not a non-existent sounding factory exhaust. That being said I am used to magnaflow 22" mufflers and flowmaster 40. I ran the GM exhaust for a few months and then took it off in place for a custom flowmaster 40 exhaust.

All because it was just to quiet for me.

With 22" Magnaflow on my 6.2 AT it has slight "V4 chop" at slow speeds in town and around 58-62 miles per hour on highway. I drive in M7 to keep it from going into V4 mode which helps alot. I am sure your Borla exhaust will be to your liking and won't have "V4 chop."

Yeah the borla has the flapper valve so hopefully the v4 chop is tolerable.

I'm half tempted to bail on this new exhaust and just sell it, but I feel like I've put so much into research and sound clips, and forum posts that I have to just jump off the deep end and install the darn thing. My truck just had the new 2017 stock exhaust put on with the new flapper which doesnt rattle. This new 17 stock exhaust seems noticeably louder than my 16 stock exhaust. That is why I'm hesitant about the borla. I think I just need a little encouragement that this GM Borla will be nice and quiet around town but sound great when floored.

Not getting to old, just smarter maybe? HAHHAA I am that way too. When I think of the stuff I use to do to my trucks it really makes me wonder what I was thinking. But engines etc. where so much easier to work on back then. Now us old buggers are limited to putting flashy wheels on and we have a hot rod! Factory engines are so much stronger now too than they were in the 80's.

I am glad to see on this website though that there are still some good kids with some brains and they have not all gone to rice rockets!

Put the exhaust on and dynamat your rear wall and rear floor and it will be exponentially quieter inside until you stomp on it

That's not a bad idea. Isn't that stuff expensive? I looked at that to cover up my TCU that has a electronic buzz in auto 4wd, but it was like $20 for a couple inches of that stuff.

I bought a big box anticipating doing my entire truck for $150 but I only used about half as the doors have factory seal over them.

I don't think it would do anything for your tcu but it's worth a shot. 3-4 sheets should be enough to do the coverage I did

I have the borla atak cat back exhaust. So that's their loudest cat back. IMO it sounds great. I hardly hear it in the cab when I have music on... although I listen to music regularly at half the volume gauge and have 2000 watts going to my subs. But even when it not and I'm talking on the phone it's relatively quiet. Gm did a pretty good job with sound deadening. But you definitely feel good when you floor it. [emoji39]

I like the GM Borla exhaust note. I am an OLD dude too and a lot of racket annoys me, especially when just cruising along. A subdued tone until you get on it is perfect for me and that is what the GM Borla gives you. Pair that up with a Cold Air Inductions Intake and when you get on it you will like the sound it is just like pure sweet music. I recently found that from a near stop a hard acceleration gives me a couple of upshift tire chirps too, now that really sounds good LOL. Dang I feel young again haha. I would for sure install it and if you really ease into the throttle your wife will probably not even know that you changed out the exhaust AGAIN

I am building confidence. Thanks for the replies so far. On the bright side, I have gotten really good at removing the stock exhaust. In fact I might be the only member here to have three different exhaust systems on his truck in the same day. I think I deserve some sort of horses a$$ trophy for that fiasco.
