Pics of Light Bar Install

Recommended Posts

Posting some pics on my light bar install and the switching I set up.

To power the relay, I purchased the GM pin connector for access to the up fitter module under the dash. I then only had to run one wire from inside the cab to the relay under the hood. I ran this wire through the nipple on the large wiring harness grommet in the firewall. I tried several approaches but ultimately used an 8" piece of coat hanger (with a sharpish point) and pushed from the engine side of the firewall through the nipple in order to break through on the cab side (best i can tell the grommet is actually like two mirror image grommets). Was then able to tape the wire to the coat hanger and pull it back through.

For Inside the cab I bought a PressAir floor mounted pneumatic foot pedal that I put under the carpet (see pics). It has a tube that attaches and operates a switch I also bought from PressAir (no picture, but it is under the dash). I ran a wire from the "accessory on" circuit from the up fitter module to this switch and then ran a wire to my dash mounted / lighted switch. The dash switch also has the ground coming from the up fitter module as well as the wire that runs to the relay under the hood.

I can use the floor foot switch to toggle the lights on an off, assuming of course that the dash switch is "on". As I toggle the lights on and off with the floor switch the light on the dash switch turns on and off, respectively, giving me a visual as to whether the lights are on - although they are pretty bright.

I installed the Rigid Industries 6" E series lights in the 2015-2016 2500 vehicle specific mount. Mine is a 2017 and worked perfectly as suspected. For the switch I used the beacon switch that was pre-installed.

Here is the switch. You just pop the sunglass holder and look up and remove two screws. Then pull the whole thing down. There are two cut wires up there that are already hooked to power and ground. I unbolted the a pillar cover and ran wires across hooked them up, ran them through the main firewall grommet straight to the lights and that's it. Really simple and clean.

This switch was already inside the upper cover?? Or just the wires? You must have a Snow prep package truck??

  • 1 month later...

I finally installed my light bar. I decided to install hanging on a bracket from the support hangers behind the grill. I also didn't really feel like running the wires to the cab for a switch, so I purchased the Totron Wireless connection kit for it, which gives me a remote fob to turn it on/off, and always give strobe features, lots of different modes.

You can see the angle iron bracket I made and attached here. It actually stands off the radiator support a bit and the light floats below it.

Here it is with the grille reinstalled.
