Chevy has just launched a true street performance package for the 2018 Tahoe and Suburban. Called, the RST, for Rally Sport Truck, the biggest improvements will be found on the 2018 Tahoe. It will get the 6.2-liter V8 with 420 hp, an improvement over the standard 5.3-liter engine now in the Tahoe that has just 355 hp. This improvement, and others we will detail below, enable the new Tahoe RST to launch from 0-60 MPH in under six seconds.

The new RST line is intended as a street-performance package. Chevy's Sandor Piszar, Chevrolet Truck Marketing director, said at a press launch in Detroit, "The RST is designed for customers who want a street performance look without sacrificing capability or refinement, along with the option of increased performance as well.”

Performance enhancements to the new Tahoe and Suburban RST with the Performance Package include the following:

- All-new Hydra-Matic 10L80 10-speed automatic transmission

- Magnetic Ride Control with performance calibration

- Available Borla performance exhaust system that offers a 28 percent improvement in exhaust flow, for a 7-10-horsepower gain at the rear wheels

- An available brake package featuring massive front red Brembo six-piston, fixed aluminum calipers with brake pads clamping on larger-than-stock 410 x 32mm (16.1 inch x 1.3 inch) Duralife rotors coupled with an 84 % increase in brake pad area and a 42 % increase in rotor area to increase system thermal capacity. Duralife™ rotors feature a hardened surface to reduce corrosion and provide quieter braking with less vibration.

Appearance enhancements include the following:

- Chrome trim delete

- Body-color grille surround and door handles

- Gloss-black grille and mirror caps; black roof rails, window trim, badging and Chevy bowties

- Exclusive 22-inch wheels wrapped in Bridgestone P285/45R 22 tires

Chevy says that due to the smaller steps between each of the 10-speed's ratios, "...the transmission maximizes engine power under acceleration. With a wide 7.39 overall gear ratio spread and lower numerical top gear ratio, the transmission also improves efficiency by reducing engine revolutions at highway speeds."

Eric Stanczak, chief engineer for Chevrolet full-size trucks, highlighted the value of the Magnetic Ride Control, saying, "When you want to hustle, it is incredibly fast, with significantly higher levels of acceleration, braking and road-holding grip." He added, "When you want to relax, it is very refined, with exceptional ride comfort and interior quietness.” Chevy says that the suspension can “Read the road every millisecond, triggering damping changes in the electronically controlled shock absorbers in as few as 5 milliseconds." The result is a suspension that delivers improved body-motion control during cornering as well as a more comfortable ride while cruising.

Chevrolet says that the new, 2018 Tahoe RST and Suburban RST will be at dealers this fall.

Its about time Chevrolet offered the 6.2L in the Tahoe. And whats with the RST? Why do they have to call it anything at all. Its a nice looking vehicle, but why not just market it as a Tahoe with options. Lip stick on a pig is still a pig. Oh...And a canyon carver it is not. The Tahoe still clocks in at almost 3 tons. And lastly..... Im sure they'll jack up the price to where mere mortals will not be able to afford the package anyway.

It's not practical for me but I like to see these as a offering. Now they should do the same thing to the Silverado. I have the 6.2 in mine but it's set up for towing and hauling, not for Street performance.

given that venturi on the head at intake valve..

it ought to scream. pun, ambiguous..sarcasm.

You wanna tow? find a diesel.

GM has gone the way of old school dragster.

Even my old 305 hangs onto a torque line long enough to vibrate something.. all open no nonsense big air...all the way to the cylinders.

I suppose this promotes towing into a different realm.

old iron or diesel. Still gets it done.

I'd love to drive one around. Keep the workloads elsewhere. must be fun to drive.

beefy barking snappy sounds like a japanese super car.

It admits aluminum anyway... not for towing.. or sustained 90.

It's cool and all that but it's going to be really expensive, probably more than a Denali which comes with the 6.2. Do it to a reg cab or any base truck, I'm in.

This is a great idea. Chevy trucks have too many offroad-type packages, which need to be countered with street packages like this. I drive my trucks on paved roads 95% of the time, so they should be designed to perform well on that surface. I welcome the stiffer sway bars, better brakes and more responsive handling. If only they would offer this in the Silverado!

I agree it's a cool package.. However Chevy didn't really offer any real off-road options to speak of.. Mostly stickers and crappy shocks.

Well they're inching their way into the performance market but i want the Z06 equivalent of a truck. I.E. Raptor competitor.

Or just lower the cost all together and i'll go straight to baja kits :D
