2017 2500HD Steering locked while driving

Yesterday I made a left turn and could not straighten the wheel back to go straight. Luck with me that I was only going about 15 mph and was able to stop without incident. While waiting for a tow truck I attempted many times to turn the wheel past the stuck spot without any luck. I finally turned the wheel all the way to the left until it hit the stops and then back to the right and it worked fine, still had it towed to the dealer for the repair, I seriously don't trust the vehicle now. 2745 miles on it, 2500HD Z71 LTZ with the Duramax. Anyone have the experience with one of these or is it just me that is the lucky one?

I have a 2016 with about 4500 miles on it now. Never had anything like that happen. I would be really worried with something that important failing. That situation could easily cost you your life. I hope they find the problem and fix it right.

I hope they find and fix it too as I really like this truck. Find out in the morning what they have to say, its blocking one of the service doors now waiting for them to open. I kinda wish I would have looked at this forum prior to trading my 2014 2500HD in as it has many of the sloppy steering issues mentioned in here.

I hope they find and fix it too as I really like this truck. Find out in the morning what they have to say, its blocking one of the service doors now waiting for them to open. I kinda wish I would have looked at this forum prior to trading my 2014 2500HD in as it has many of the sloppy steering issues mentioned in here.

'14's never had a sloppy steering problem.

Back when I was an Apprentice Mechanic, I had an almost brand-new '75 Seville do this very thing to me. I was bringing it from the Customer's office to our shop for routine service, when I rounded a corner and the stupid steering column locked. I came within inches of hitting a parked Lincoln with it. Ye gods, that would have been an expensive accident! I figured that I had to get it to the shop somehow, so I violently shook the steering wheel back and forth against the lock, and it unlocked within a few moments. But I could feel that steering column locking pin riding on its lock plate, all the way to the shop.

 

When I delivered the car and the keys back to the Customer, I told him about it, and to watch out for it. "Yeah, it's done it to me a couple of times. The dealer can't seem to find anything wrong..."

 

Cadillac had a huge recall on these shortly thereafter.

 

I hope it's not that kind of situation for you.

I I hope not. That would not make me a happy camper if that happened while I was towing our 5th wheel.

It has never happened to me. But I have had it lock up on me when I was parked.
