Stock wheels and tires hitting upper control arms???

Recommended Posts

Hey y'all this is my first time posting and I'm sorry if it's not in the right place or done right. I've been looking on this site for a while now learning allot from you guys experience with these trucks! I had a interesting problem come up last night however and I can not seem to find anyone else have the same problem. I have a 2016 Silverado 1500 4x4 with stock wheels and tires and all stock suspension all I've added is a 2.5 rough country leveling kit. I installed the leveling kit at around 1500 miles and it now has 6500 miles on it and never had a issue until last night. I was backing out of a drive way turned to full lock to the left my tires started scrubbing the ucr real bad! I've never heard of stock wheels and tires doing this? Any ideas on what could just cause this??? Thanks y'all!

I had the same problem when I added Fox 2.0 all around and brought the front up 2". My guess is you have stamped steel arms and believe that they must have been really close at stock height to rubbing the UCA's as well.

If you want to run the stock rims i.e. 20" there is not a lot of options except for wheel spacers or dropping back down to stock height. I also considered going to a 275/60/20 to see if the tire bulge would clear the UCA at full lock due to the increased tire height.

I decided to sell the rims and go with 17" Method NV with 0 offset on a 285/70/70 with over 1" of clearance in all directions. Much happier!!!!

Man yo be honest with you I never paid any attention to them at all before I did the leveling kit. I figured they wouldn't be that close being the factory wheel with factory tires. The weird part about it is I have run this set up for almost 6k miles now and never had the first run till last night. I sure do hate to have to run a spacer but I may have to try it.

I had the same exact problem. i made a thread about it a while back. i have ordered fox 2.5 coil overs and cognito UCA to replace the stock components that will hopefully be going on within the next two weeks.

That's gone be a nice set up! I have built all my vehicles before this one and wanted to keep this one stockish but that may not happen. Thank y'all for the replies! I've had plenty of leveling kits in the past and never had a scrubbing issue anywhere with stock wheels and tires haha.

yeah I've never run fox coil overs before so i am pretty excited about. as far as your leveling kit goes, my dealer told me the other day they run the 2.5 RC kits on all their trucks that they level with zero scrubbing issues. so I'm not sure if my issues were install related or what but i couldn't turn going forwards or backwards lock to lock without destroying my UCA

Hmm that weird. It should ride good! I don't know a whole lot about them but I know fox is some good stuff. I had been planning on running 305s on the stock 20s like I've seen tons of others running on theirs with 2.5" leveling kits. I'm not sure how they pull it off but I dang sure can't haha. Kinda sucks

most people that I've seen (assuming you have stamped steel UCA) run 2.5 with 275/65/20 with no problems but i haven't seen anyone running 305's without wheel spacers

Does anyone know the OEM rim offset by chance, may go to aftermarket rims but have no clue what to choose for offset and I`m not doing a leveling kit or anything but just want the proper look and to not have wheels sticking out past the body haha.

I really like the look of those Method NV wheels but would most likely go with 18`and just swap out with the tires that come with the truck.

My new one to me soon...

I'm not gone say I didn't miss the part where they said they had spacers haha I just saw when they ran 305s that they did scrub the ucr at full lock. That's kinda to be expected with a wider tire like that I just didn't expect with with them being stock! I may have to shop around for a 275/65/20 now though. So do tricks with aluminum control arms not have these issues?
