Tires size for a 96 Siverado

Recommended Posts

Hello All,

I have a 96 Silverado and I'm putting back the original stock rims back on my truck. I would like to know what is the widest size tire I can put back on that rim. The truck has a fender flare kit I would like to get as wide a tire as possible and tall as possible to fill that fender well up.

Any worth-while suggestions would be very helpful.

Thanks

I had wondered this too.

I welded into a back axle looking skinny (the bed has monster cross sills - exactly straight. The bed towers over beyond the wheels by inches.)

the back can get 2 inch spacers to look like the front...some trucks notice it, some don't.

I have tread width at 10.5 maximum.. and then sidewalls always go further.

some tires will show 9.5 in the ads, but prove to be fatty sidewalls.. almost a foot wide sometimes.

LT rated stand taller, hold advertised measure better.

With flares, you could do the ever non trusty aftermarket realm by +2 over factory.

that can get pretty big if you got back spacing right.. go real wide if backspacing simulates factory.

Never found a real wheel however. I stay factory as well.

oem sizing is good. Never went beyond it. I needed LT load range E anyway, a serious old 1/2 ton truck.

With a torsion bar crank you can run a 285/75/16 on the stock rim. I had a buddy run that size in a Duratrac on his '98 z71 with no issues.

^^^ This.

Sorry, barry G's post's are very hard to decipher at times, haha.
