Tow Mirror Conversion

Recommended Posts

I have searched high and low for the topic that listed out all of the parts, and necessary upgrades to change from my mirrors in sig to power folding, LED, spotlight, blah blah blah mirrors. Can someone direct me there or help me out. I have been looking on ebay and cannot get clear answers. Some vendors say if you have RPO code K40 for diesel engine brake there is a temp sensor in the right mirror and the swap will not work? Sorry to bring this old topic up again

You have the old mirrors on your truck per your sig. picture correct? Were they factory installed?

Yes and yes, when I ordered it the other mirrors were not even available yet. They were carryovers from the previous generation trucks. Power, heat, and turn signals only

To put the new ones on, you would need the RZY jumper harness 23387133, if you have memory seats you need door harnesses 84125571 and 84125561, and if you don't have memory seats you need 84125573 and 84125560. You can go with either kit 23372181 (chrome caps) or 23372182 (black caps). The RZY harness is needed to power the lighting on the mirrors (cargo/reverse lamp and the amber marker on the front). It does involve adding two wires to each of the door jamb truck side connectors, a wire in the UBEC, and then the under dash junction block (by your left foot area).

To have the cargos come on in reverse, you would need to do the diode mod: http://www.gm-trucks.com/forums/topic/164156-cargo-lights-on-with-reverse-lights/?p=1495649 and the picture of where it goes: http://www.gm-trucks.com/forums/topic/164156-cargo-lights-on-with-reverse-lights/?p=1495731

If you want to do power folding, that is a whole different ball game sort of. As far as wiring I am not sure what is needed, but I do know that the power fold mirrors are sold individually rather than in a kit. The kit mirrors don't power fold, but they are still the same new style tow mirror.

As for K40...pre AVF trucks such as yours didn't have the second ambient temp sensor in the mirror. That came with the 2015.5 AVF trucks. The passenger mirror in the two mirror kits come with that sensor, whether it is needed or not to make the swap easy no matter which engine.

Wow, quite the undertaking it seems. I really like the mirrors and it buds the crap out of me that I have the 9 year old carry-overs and most everyone else does not. I'm sure I am mechanically capable of doing it but I really wanted to have the power fold option. I thought that if the door switch was purchased and the BCM was flashed that function was able to become available? It almost sounds like a trade in is about as expensive.

GM doesn't support adding DL3 mirrors to trucks not build with them so no a flash would not resolve that. I know DL3 conversions have been done and there is info on this forum out there. Being that you do have an SLT however, there is a chance that most if not everything you need is there, but it all depends on if the wiring is present in the body harness where it meets the door harness.

Awe man that is a real bummer, if I could not get the power fold option to work it's not worth it. Thanks for all of your help!

I bought the 1a Auto powerfold mirrors for my 2015 2500hd Denali. Fit is good the A1 mirrors come with the power fold wiring in a separate connector ignore this. I removed the wires from the A1 connector and installed them into the pin sockets as shown on the wiring diagrams I got from GM upfitters. I replaced the switch on the door with the power fold switch for my truck. Works perfect, no issues.
