0-20W (Good for Hot Regions?)

Recommended Posts

Hey All,

I'm about a month away from getting my 2015 Silverado 5.3 Ecotec. Been reading another thread about recommended oil and filters and notice majority went with Mobil 1. However where I live in Central America, we are use to having temps of 77-90degs most days. Would this 0-20 still be advised?

Thanks,

Keagan

It will be fine. It works well here in south Florida with temps in the mid 90's most of the year and works fine in the western US where temps reach 110-120 in the summer months.

Dang, most people here suggest a higher grade. For instance, on my 06 Avalanche, I'm told to use 10w 40. Compared to what is recommended with this truck, that is quite a step up. So I really can't go wrong with 0-20 or 5-20?

I just checked the prices for Mobil 1 here, granted I didn't check the different grades as I was waiting to hear back from you guys. Cost per quart is around 18bzd which is equivalent to 9.00usd. Damn!

I run 0w-20, even tho it is hard to find any of it.

My oil pressure seems to run fine all the time, even when towing and off roading,

I know this might seem like a stupid ?, but the 10w 40 I ran in my avalanche, would that contribute to just a little drop below the half way marker on the dash? I'm wondering if it is straining my oil pump?

Heavier oil should increase oil pressure, not decrease... not sure why that's not the case for you
