'01 Suburban 2500 LT RR Autoride sensor

JDerstine

Question

I have a "service autoride" light on my '01 2500 Suburban ( 6.0L , 4wd and LT trim group ). My mechanic, using his Snap On diagnostic reader determined that the right rear level sensor for the Autoride system is defective. He cleared the code and I drove literally 35 feet before it came back on. I will add the code when I talk to the mechanic on Monday.

It seems GM no longer carries the sensors for the rear but the front ones are still available. Can a front sensor be used ( with mounting alterations of course )? If not, what other options do I have?

The "default mode" is a rear end up and harsh ride.

Thanks

Jeff

Turned out the wiring was bad in the end of the harness and going into the sensor itself. After comparing reading from the known good left side sensor to the right side, he did the following. My mechanic removed the crumbly wiring going back to the sensor itself and removed some of the plastic to get to the three lugs for the sensor. He soldered new wires on and made a new short harness to use the factory style plug.

It now works as it should and cost three hours of labor. It would have been much cheaper to find another unit to use but was unaware of any comparable units.
