New Duramax Buyer Questions

Recommended Posts

Hi guys. I am new to this forum and I will likely be purchasing a GMC 2500 with the new Duramax within the next couple months.

Here is a my dilemma and trust me I realize this is an ultimate case of the first worlds but here goes

I have a big Norris Lake trip coming up the day after memorial day. I am going to tow my boat about 1000 miles. I want but don't absolutely need the new truck to do this. I can get it done with my 1500. The trip would be much better with a 2500 Diesel though.

1)Should I tow with my 1500 and wait for the 2018 trucks? Any known issues with the 2017 Diesels? I know it is a first year engine so I assume there will be some improvements in 2018.

2)I like the blacked out All Terrain X package on the GMC. Not sure if I love the sport bar. I would like the ability to take it off if needed. Anyone know if this is possible? Thanks!

2018 trucks are the same as 2017 trucks.

The sport bar. It has an integrated 3rd brake lamp. The factory terminal for the one normally on the truck is removed from the underhood fuse block. If you want to remove it and install it and remove it etc., its somewhat time consuming as you have to remove the UBEC each time and switch the wiring.

The new Duramax is a monster. No changes for 2018 Duramax either.

Thanks for the reply. I realize the 2018s are essentially the same but there could be some small revisions that would make the wife happy like a push button start. Wondering about those?

So the sport bar wiring goes all the way under the hood? That is PITA to remove I'm sure. Just not a fan of the looks of the bar but the murdered out look of the truck is awesome.

Are you sure there are no changes for the 2018 duramax? Nothing? I have a reputable source that tells me there are some "refinements" but nothing major.
