What type of straps do you keep around?

Recommended Posts

In my truck i carry one heavy duty recovery strap with hooked ends. I also carry four heavy duty ratchet straps for load retention.

I also have in my toolbox a bed sized bungee net for load retention.

When I travel up to my cabin I throw extra recovery straps, snatch block, hand winch and extra ratchet straps. Among other recovery like folding shovel, axe, pick, etc.

Yes I've "been there, done that" in regards to off-roading and recovery work. It sucks not having what you need when you find yourself, a buddy or complete stranger stranded

I keep a 2" x 30' long 10,000 lb recovery strap with looped ends, along with a shackle in my swing case.

I use these rope ratchets most often for light loads / lumber/ etc.

I have a bunch of 500 lb 1" ratchet straps I use for securing snowmobile/ lawn mower/ mototcycle, etc.

I put E-track in my old enclosed trailer, a row at 4' high on both sides and a row right above the floor. I really liked that. I don't care what kind of ratchet strap or bungee you have, when you can move your anchor anywhere you want it, life is good. I would recommend E-track to anyone with a cargo trailer.

better to have it and not need it...than need it and not have it!

I have a ProComp strap that is almost 20 years old now...only used it a handful of times, I think it's a 3" wide by 30 foot long deal. I bought it and a tree saver from Summit Racing when they introduced the ProComp line and had a sale.

Whatever you get, get looped ends and use shackle...don't buy one with hooks already attached.

For tiedowns, I keep a tool bag in the truck with probably eight 1" and three or four 1.5". I also have a laundry basket with ten 1.5" and six 2" ratchet straps that I grab when taking the trailer.

I also made some short cable loops and some short cables with a loop in one end and a hook on the other for tying down those sharp things with a strap.

I have a big 30 ft strap, I think around 30k rating. Also carry a set of 12ft ratchet straps, and a set of those 300lb "cam lock" straps you just pull to tighten.

I've actually pulled a mini van out of snow with the cam lock straps, just for giggles. Also didn't want to unwind a whole 30 ft strap. :driving:

I have a bag in my toolbox in the bed with a recovery strap, four HD ratchet straps, four cinch straps and another bag with bungees. I never know what I will be hauling in the ATV trailer at any time so like to be prepared.

I was the hit of my bosses Xmas party...he lives at the bottom is a steep hill which is a dead end. Plow truck doesn't bother. I was the only one of 30+ people with a strap....and luckily I had my headlamp and overalls in my jeep hahaha. I towed five cars up the hill that night. The band tipped me $5!

And yes, tow straps with looped ends I prefer. Just need to make sure to carry a D shackle or two
