Color matched cost

Recommended Posts

I have a 15 silver ice silverado. Want to get the bumpers matched. Called one shop, he said he'd sand blast, powder coat silver, then paint with actual silver ice metallic. Quoted 500 per bumper. Seems expensive. They would be doing all the labor to remove and reinstall the bumper. Perhaps silver ice is a hards color to match with powder, which might be why he wants to paint it over the silver powder. He said the benefit is that if the paint chips at all, it won't be as noticable with the silver powder undercoat. But 500 per bumper is more than I want to spend. Haso anyone had success matching just powder coat to silver ice? And what about vinyl? Any matches with that? Thanks in advance.

somewhere on here I have seen the vinyl wrap for bumpers but cannot find it right now. Doubt if the color match would be more than just close, 500 sounds about right for a professional that is highly skilled at his trade.........

To "sand blast, powder coat silver, then paint with actual silver ice metallic" including removal and installation for $500 almost sounds too good to be true! I believe the work is worth the money but whether the modification is worth the money is a personal decision.

That actually seems reasonably priced to me. Just think about the hourly involved with that, then add the materials, and some sort of profit margin. Idk - remove, sand blast, clean, primer, paint, paint, clear coat, install, repeat. Seems close, maybe remove the bumpers and bring them too him and see if you can get it down to around 750?

Yeah it does seem like a lot for just a personal preference, you could probably just put that 1000 dollars towards trading your truck in on a unit that already has color matched bumpers?

It was just something I was looking into. I think it would look nice but I don't need it to be done. I don't despise the chrome like some do. But for 1000 bucks, forget about it. It has no impact on the functionality of my truck.

This! Plus it's at a shop, so you have to factor in overhead also.

That price does seem reasonable. Its not just shoot and spray on those chrome bumpers. I've seen people use that plastidip and it looks alright, maybe you want to go down that route

I've thought about it more. They are doing all the work, including disassembly and reassembly. It sounds like it will be a pretty durable mod, too. Better than factory painted bumpers. I'll just work a few more OT shifts and get it done. Thanks for your input. I really didn't know how much to expect to pay, but it sounds reasonable now that I read what all of you have to say. Thanks!

I just got quoted $1000 to repaint my 2015 midnight edition (front bumper only) that's gotten some rock chips over the past year and a half. If that gives you any indication of the offer you received
