Jack and Jack Stands

For a 03 Sierra 2500 HD what size floor jack and jack stands do I need to safely work under my truck? Thanks! I've never needed floor jacks before so I want to make sure I get strong ones.

 

Any recommendations on jack stands and floor jacks?

Costco sells a nice 3 ton jack for $100. I have one.

I purchased the Costco 3 ton jack tonight. Looks like a solid jack. My father in law has jack stands. I need to see what their rated then I'm ready to tackle shocks and some rust proofing I want to do.

Is your 2nd vehicle smaller than a truck ? If so, might make a lot of sense to grab a low profile version.

 

And I'm ALL for oversizing jack and stands, but just because your vehicle weighs 3 tons doesn't mean you would ever lift it all at once. A 2 ton jack would also work, but for safety factor sake, and considering all this sh!t is made in China (or JINA, as Trump calls it..) you wouldn't be overshooting to go with a 3 ton. Just keep in mind the profile, esp if you have a small other vehicle because it sucks to have to roll up on ramps just to get a dang jack under it.

 

Oh, and DO get the aluminum version. The steel version is RIDICULOUS to tote around. It will wear you out just to move it in the garage.
