2016 Silverado 5.3 - CATCH CAN questions

Recommended Posts

So I've been thinking about installing a catch can. 5.3 has about 8,400 miles on it and runs great. What brand/type can would you guys who have the can recommend. I don't need gold plated billet fancy, just looking for catch can that works well, and and comes with necessary hose fittings. Also, are check valves necessary? Seems having them would be a good thing, but I don't know if they are needed.

Any first hand experience and or suggestions appreciated.

There is nothing to debate regarding valve deposits on GDI motors. There is nothing washing over the valve to clean them. Oil vapors definetly add to these deposits and a catch can helps. I have always used them on my LS motors with good results and after seeing my valves upon tear downs I knew they help. The GDI motor by design is worse so I installed one on my 6.2. I can tell you this. I get alot more oil in this can than my LS motors and am happy its less deposits on my valves. Hoping to put off the inevitable maintenance of walnut blasting or chemical cleaning as I have on my BMW and VW.

Search function is your friend; as well as the "stickys"!!!!!! :banghead::shakehead::withstupid:

dorkweed - I did a search and up came plenty of threads with the words "can" and "catch" but I didn't find much as far as brand recommendations. I suppose if I had gone thru every line of all the threads I might have found more of what I was looking for.

edit in;;;; I just looked under modifications and did fine more/better info.

Thank you for your response, dork :smoker:

When I was researching I found post recommending Elite Engineering's CC. I purchased mine from JDP Motorsports, it is a quality product;

Elite Engineering - PCV Catch Can - 2014-2016 Chevy/GM Truck/SUV 5.3L/6.2L - CC500B-62L-XHRH-C1

I spent extra and got the AN fittings.

I have the ELITE can also and it is a quality piece. Works well and they have good instructions and youtube install video. I am always amazed at how much oil is in there which would have gone into the intake.
