2007 Suburban Brake Problem

Recommended Posts

My 2007 Chevy Suburban 128,000 miles, developed a bad vibration in the steering wheel which made me believe I had a brake problem on the front right wheel. I pulled off the highway and the front right wheel was very hot and smelled of very hot brakes. I had new brake pads and rotors installed 12 months ago(12k miles). I am thinking I have a caliper hanging up. I think I need to do a complete front brake job (calipers, pads, and rotors). In addition I think I should have the wheel bearings repacked or replaced since there was excessive heat on that wheel.

Any thoughts on my assessment of this problem?

If it hasn't been occurring very long you may just need a new caliper. You'll know when you take it apart.

Next time around you'll probably see that wheel brakes fail first. The rotor may be fine.. depends on how bad it was hanging up.

You may just be able to lube the slide pins.. if they didn't service them when they did the brake job that may be the reason they hung up. I've seen it before.

My Esky (purchased last year) had a new pad on a horribly groved rotor (no way that pad did that to the rotor) on one side. The other side had a new caliper but no grease in the slide pins. It was the one locking up and had worn through the pad so it needed to be replaced. I just greased up the pins well, new pads and rotors and it's been good ever since.
