all service lights come on / tach and speedo stop working

Recommended Posts

Yesterday my truck let me know a few things when I started it. It let me know to service my airbag, service my trailer brake system, and a few other items. Most of the dummy lights stayed on and the speedometer and tach did not work, along with the other guages. My compass was not working, the transmission gear indicator was not working and all of the trip and fuel mileage info was gone. I drove about 60 miles and shut the truck off. When I re-started it a few hours later, everything was fine. Does this mean I need to take it in for service? Should I look for this happening again? It was kinda nice driving on the highway with no speedometer, no pressure to stay under the limit. It just hit 40,000 miles. 2016 chevy 2500 HD 6.0

Pay close attention to the engine cranking speed, A lot of times when you start noticing electrical type glitches the battery is approaching the end of its life cycle and the voltage drop causes some strange chit to happen. If you pay close attention you will notice a reduced engine cranking speed. You might want to stop by your dealership and have them run a battery and alternator test, the OEM batteries have been known for weakness in certain batches. It is industry wide not just GM I bought my wife a new 2015 nonGM truck and they have replaced the battery twice already under warranty on it.

good advice, I was going to say, the truck is only a year old. It needs an oil change this week. I will tell them, just wanted a little intel before I went in so I don't get the run around.
