Chevrolet's new Equinox plays a bit of catch-up with its new Equinox by adding Surround Vision. This technology allows a top-down view of the entire area around the vehicle. Many automakers offer the technology already, including GM on other models. However, the Equinox is Chevy's entry into the largest single market (yes, even bigger than the truck segment), that being the affordable compact crossover class. This is America's new family car and it makes good sense for Chevy to offer the technology. Chevy mentions back-over accidents in the video, but fails to mention if the Equinox offers automatic reverse braking when objects are detected, as some of its competitors do. Chevy does offer forward collision prevention on Equinox, but as an option. Toyota's RAV4 and the upcoming Nissan Rogue offer that technology on all trims at no added cost.
