Stabilitrac/ Steering Assist Problem

Recommended Posts

Looking for anyone who may be able to help. I have a 2014 Chevy Silverado. I keep getting "Stabilitrac- Service" warning or sometimes "Steering assist is reduced" error. Also at low speeds or at a stop the steering wheel jerks. Sometimes the truck shuts off after. This only happens every couple of weeks , but has happened MANY times.

I have had the truck to the Dealer and keep getting - "we cant duplicate the issue" They pulled many communication error codes- but said none show what they need to repair. My warranty is up in 1000 miles and I am getting extremely frustrated with this. Obviously there is a problem- but unless they can duplicate the issue .. I'm screwed. Even if they duplicate the issue on a test drive- when the truck shuts off it resets and does not show the error- and I doubt they will be any help.

Not sure if I should try another dealer and risk the same results.

Thanks for any helpful information.

This sounds a lot like the problems others were having when they had electrical problems. Bad grounds behind the dash, bad batteries, etc. There's a few threads around, I'd go check those out.

Sounds like the G218 ground. Search should turn up tons of results. Here's a video of the fix:

Yep. Also try the Search function -- you will find lots of threads about this issue with instructions/results.

I'm having the same problems I have already checked g218 ground and trimmed the foam same problem. I took it to the dealership and they said my truck failed the voltage drop test and the negative battery cable and short positive battery cable needed to be replaced. Just asking if you fixed your problem and if so how? Tia.

Take a look to rear of passenger side front wheel well behind the shroud. There is a ground in there bolted to frame. It is famous for poor contact because of all the rust prevention and might need a good cleaning.

I will have to take a look at this on mine. I had my "Stabilitrak" and "Steering assist reduced. Drive with care" lights come on and shortly after my starter died. Those warning lights are intermittent and go off on their own. They will come and go as I drive the truck.

I am having the same issue. I checks battery connections, have a new battery and G218 ground. Cleaned RF fender ground, drivers side ground and spare ground. All ABS sensors look good. I did notice my inclinometer on my dash (shows steering angle and vehicle angle) is not working. I believe my issue with the stabilitrak is the steering wheel position sensor.
