New Truck, Door issue

Recommended Posts

Just purchased a new 17 GMC Denali HD 2500 a few weeks ago. I was just cleaning up the truck the other day when i noticed that that back cab doors look different. The driver side looks right, tight fit, the seams line up. When i look at the passenger side however, the door doesn't look like it is closing all the way. There is a big gap at the top. I took pics, but its kinda hard to tell from them. The door does shut, and so far with washing it 4 times there has been no leak. Just don't know if this is a factory issue seen on other trucks. Not sure what the dealership could do to fix. Only looks like this on the top back side of door.

Yes, truly a fit and finish issue and sorry to see the factory shipped that truck. Far less likely but still possible is that the truck was damaged in transit and poorly fixed. No matter the reason, the dealer has to fix that.

I think the fit and finish on new vehicles has really improved in the last few decades. I bought a brand new Mercury Cougar in 1973 and and brand new 1975 Ford F250, terrible fit and finish issues on both of those vehicles. My first new vehicle with nice even gaps between doors and body panels was an 86 Toyota Camry my wife and I drove for 16 years. Fantastic car.

I think Ford and GMC now match Japanese vehicles in fit and finish.

Take it to the dealer! Fixing it under warranty, the assembly plant will find out about it.

I read your profile, great to have the experience of a guy who built trucks for a living and a fellow Canadian as well.

Thanks for your post.
