matching DRLs while replacing a light?

Recommended Posts

I have a 2015 Sierra Denali 2500 dmax. Last month I hit a vulture that was feeding on the side of the highway and luckily it only broke my headlight lens. I found a used headlight assembly with a mfg date of 1 year earlier than my model. 6/14 vs 4/15. But the DRLs on the 6/14 light have more of a yellow tint than my good passenger side light. I know LEDS yellow with age and likely also differ by mfg batch. The light I purchased was not the exact same part# but was sold as a 2014-2016 match. I have found another used light within one month of my mfg date but I'm gun-shy on buying another light only to have it be slightly different. Here's my questions:

1. has anyone else heard of issues matching LED coloring while replacing an OEM headlight

2. I had a body shop look at it and said they would replace it minus my $500 deductible. Do they have to insure the lights match in color or would I be stuck with "what you see is what you get" from the insurance.

My overall goal was to replace the light myself for less than my deductible cost. It's also not reported on a carfax as a repair if I replace the headlight. I have taken the light out and there is no additional damage to the body/clips/mounts/etc. I'm certain I can sell the mismatched light and recover that expense. But my insurance (USAA) doesn't have to specify OEM and may authorize an aftermarket unit.

Has anyone heard of issues with LEDs matching in whiteness with OEM products? Just trying to weigh my options for the closest match.

The pic doesn't do the difference justice as the driver side is noticeably more yellow than the passenger light.

TIA!

I think the problem is this: the 2014 headlight was good only for 2015. Unless you have retrofitted your truck with those tow mirrors you need one for a 2015.5 or newer.
