Dealer says it's up-to-date but still won't connect

Recommended Posts

Hey guys I'm having a bit of trouble connecting my Nexus 5x phone to my factory radio for Android Auto. I've chatted with Chevy via their online chat and they said the truck was compatible and available for the Android Auto update

In an un-related case I had the truck in at a local GMC dealer who replaced the radio buttons due to the "radio" button sticking when I bought the truck and asked them to make sure the radio was up-to-date so I can use Android Auto.

After getting the truck back the dealership said the radio was already up-to-date. When I plug in my phone to the USB in the center console or glove box the Projection button on the radio never changes to Android Auto. I again chatted with Chevy via online chat and they said I should be seeing an option under settings called "Android Auto" but the only thing I see and Apple Car Play or something along those lines.

Can anyone that does have Android Auto working share what version your radio is using? Below is my version numbers. The truck is a 2016 Silverado LT Z71 with the I05 radio.

if it's up-to-date then you should also see "Android auto" option where you see "apple play" under settings

Do you have the Android Auto App installed on your phone? I don't think its just a plug and play and you, need to have the app on your phone so that its compatible.

I'm actually taking my 2016 Sierra into service next Tuesday for a USB issue, I drove off the lot a week and a half ago and the iPod played fine. When I got home and decided to go back out for a spin, the audio system didn't recognize anything connected to USB. I checked the firmware on the iPod and found it needed an update so I updated it. The iPod worked for about 15 mins then disappeared again with USB being unrecognized. The manual suggested making sure to use proprietary equipment for all devices being connected to USB including Apple exclusive USB cables. So I went to Best Buy, bought the $35 Apple lightning cable and immediately tested the iPod, it worked again for 15 mins then stopped and USB was unrecognizable again. So, I'm now tired of screwing with it, I called service and they said to bring in the truck for a computer update. So that's my next step.

My son's iPhone does still work on the audio system though. I haven't tried my Samsung S6 yet.

Thanks, looks like you have a newer version and I do NOT have an Android Auto menu under settings at any time, with or without the phone plugged in. Only Apple CarPlay.

Yes Android Auto is installed on the phone. I have tried connecting the phone to the radio with and without Android Auto running. Still no go.

I know that sometimes I have to connect and reconnect the usb cable to show apple play. It is a little screwed up. If I don't plug my phone in immediately before I start the truck it gets finicky. Not sure if the same would hold true for the android. I suspect you have already tried this.

So wait...you have the Projection icon on the home screen, but it does not function?

Check the build label in your glovebox for this code CPO.

No my label does not have a CPO code.

Well I'm heading back up to Indiana, which is where I bought the truck, to see family and now have an appointment with the dealership I bought the truck from to check out the radio and update it if needed.

When you plug your phone in it should bring this screen up to either install or no thanks. To install android auto.... Also try this.. try plugging your phone in and pull down your drop down menu on phone check your MTP connection. If you select that it should give you options like charge this phone ECT ECT... select transfer media files or connect a midi device. Are you running a custom Rom?b34ecebb1acb026078859353b4a527ab.jpgd3259f24bf8d0d29f304d1d260a5cf62.jpg

Recently I have been re-starting my phone (Note 4) before hooking up for Android Auto. Working about 85% to get started. sometimes, takes a little longer, sometimes starts right away.

Its the HMI that needs to be updated for android auto, not the radio.

It's unreal the amount of techs that have no idea how the MOST system in these trucks work and what controls what.

My S7 Samsung doesn't work with some generic USB cords. Only the original Samsung cords work all the time.

Two months ago it stopped working altogether and an software related message came up......updated AutoAndroid app on the phone it began working again.

Try the stuff above But!!!!!!!!

My truck was up to date and I still could not connect my Samsung S7. I took it in and made them re-do the updates.

It works now.

I saw the update procedure for these radios and it just stupid.. If they make one mistake in the order the update will not take.
