bed camera install

Recommended Posts

I have a 2016 3500hd. Has anyone changed out the brake light bar at the top of the cab to the one with the camera that shows the inside of the bed? New part is echomaster 19355216. Is there any additional wiring or is it a pop the old one out and the new one in? Thanks

I haven't done it but just FYI -- that camera comes 3 ways:

  • $179 for just the camera. If you buy this one it plugs into the reverse camera plug near your tailgate. If you get this one it takes the place of the reverse camera in your tailgate handle and only works in reverse. You can't use both cameras -- it's one or the other.
  • $499 for the camera and switch. This one ties into the factory system and can be used along with the tailgate camera. You can switch it on or off or set it to automatically activate. I think this is the part number you mentioned.
  • $200 if you already have the IntelliHaul system. This adds the CHMSL camera to an existing "all-around" camera system. It requires the base system which runs around $820 from Echomaster and $995 from GM.

More info on all the combinations here:

You can add the third brake light camera and switch for substantially cheaper through MVI (www.gm-navigation.com) as that is what I did along with a few other upgrades from them. Their customer service is top-notch as well!

I think they put that incase someone calls and wants to be walked through the entire install. Most of their installs take at least basic knowledge of wiring and some of them can be more complex. They also send you videos of the installs if they have them as they have numerous YouTube videos. They're very busy too working on new things as things are constantly changing. I had the opportunity to visit their shop to check out their operation on a road trip so I can completely understand they don't have the time to "hold someone's hand" if that person has gotten themselves in too deep. I'm a Master Tech and hate it when someone expects me to diagnose their car without even seeing or driving it. They're in the same boat if someone calls as that person may not even be able to describe what is actually happening, i.e. "it's broke" or "it's not working", or what they did as that person may have completely FUBARed it. They do help you out as they "WANT YOU TO BE COMPLETELY SATISFIED and our product to operate as designed". I had an issue and that was never brought up. I sent Anthony a text (yes a text, he gives out his cell #) once about 9pm ct expecting a reply the next day and he replied later that same night. I've learned through my years, you need patience in all things, especially when working on vehicles. Patience seems to be a dying virtue in this "Now" age unfortunately. If you do have an issue, I strongly believe they will make it right. There's even testimonials out there from people where MVI helped them out even though they didn't originally purchase stuff from them. I don't usually share my experiences with businesses, especially promote them but MVI straight up blew me away with their customer service and I definitely recommend them to anyone. Anthony and John are great guys.
