donklaing
Why is the two rear rail post holes elongated? Are there special order tie downs for these two holes?

jerryw1000
Hand grab for bumper step And us old, short legged little round guys do appreciate them putting that there. Even with that grab point it's still all I can do to get on the tailgate of my 3500 HD 4x4. Can't hardly get my foot up TO the step in the bumper. Yeah not sure about on a HD truck but on a stock 1500 it isn't bad at all Sent from my SM-N920V using Tapatalk
revrnd
Hand grab for bumper step A nice touch, other wise I imagine it would be uncomfortable using it as a handhold if they hadn't been reworked.
Rvduck
The hand holds and the rear bumper corner steps are such a great simple idea. Why did it take 100 years to come up with this. I have owned pickups for almost 45 years, I learned to drive on my Dad's 55 Ford pickup and my first truck was a 65 Ford. Even in 65 they had a step in the centre for getting into the bed when the tailgate was up, but with the tailgate down, I remember slipping on those slippery bumper corners while trying to get into the bed with the tailgate down. Ford came up with the useless abortion of a pole and some steep steps on the tailgate. My boss had this bad idea on his truck. What a joke! GMC comes up with these simple corner steps and blows the competition out of the water.................again.
LongrangeLauber
It's better than the tailgate step because you can still use it even with something on the tailgate or backing up to a gooseneck or 5th wheel. Plus it keeps the weight off the tailgate and is a lot less expensive. Plus a smooth tailgate assists in loading stuff Sent from my SM-N920V using Tapatalk
brclark82
My post holes were covered by my retrax pro on my 1500 and I never missed them, but it is handy to have on the 2500
sk
As others said they are made you get your fingers in there while you put your foot on the bumper step and pull yourself up. If you want to fill them this guy came up with a PERFECT fit piece (they are laser-scanned): http://www.railcaps.com I ordered a set from him. They fit and match perfectly and can be removed easily if you want to use the handhold. Well worth the $25 and the guy was great to work with! A friend had an F150 w/ it & I shook my head. I'm in the bush cutting wood a lot. The tailgate makes a perfect work bench. But the pile of junk on the F150 tailgate make it unusable. I have heard that they have changed it so it's not as intrusive.

This old beat up retired Cavalry Scout Sergeant, getting in and out of the back is not as easy as in my younger days. I did lower the back of my 2500 with a set of 2" McGaughy's drop shackles, and man, what a difference in being able to get in and out. And my pickup doesn't look like a cat in heat like it did from the factory.
