Android Auto Options for 2015

Recommended Posts

I am very interested in Android Auto but I don't really care to purchase an after market stereo unit, I like the stock radio. That said could I trade out a 2017 stock radio in order to get Android Auto? Is there some other component that I would need to trade out also/instead of/in addition to?

You can't just swap out the radio -- it needs to be programmed to your VIN. There are guys on this forum that can do it for you. The reputable ones are GTPrix or the guys at MVI.

Thanks for the info. Didn't realize they were tied to the VIN but it makes sense for Onstar and the wifi.

If I were to try this does the radio need to get replaced or is there a separate module that can be changed out? I thought I saw something about that somewhere in looking into this.

Interested as well.

Dealer said it would be an update when I bought the truck. They lied. :(

It depends. If you have a 2014 or 2015 it is NOT an option. If you have a 2016 or 2017 it is a FREE update that the dealer can do for you.

The OP asked about a 2015 so it can't be done by the dealer (takes aftermarket updates).

Except for those that got a mid year 2016 that had the 2015 head unit and the $200 credit, when units supporting AA were not available.

Mine is also a 2015.

Dealer told me it would be a simple software update when I bought my truck. They lied to me.

They lied about more than a few things but that one to me was a big one as it's something I really wanted.

The aftermarket has jumped all over this infotainment system! And that's great.

What's not great is they want more for the same upgrade than GM did when the truck was new!!!!!!!

Example: Nav was a $495 option. But could be had from most dealers for $300 if you haggled with them.

Most aftermarket options start at $650 and go to over $1,000!!!!!!!!!! That's down right stupid.

The aftermarket should beat the OEMs prices not double them!

so is android auto supposed to be on the 2017 radios? im trying to figure out how to get it to work with my android phone. i have android auto downloaded to the phone, but dont see it anywhere on the radio itself. when i go to system update, it says i have the latest update available.

Yes, if you have a Projection icon, just plug the phone in via USB. The icon will change to Android Auto.

So what would be the cheapest option to add phone mirroring? I don't care if it is android auto or just mirrors my phone. I just think its ridiculous to spend $600 on a dang module.

Curious to know as well.

I just came across this set up from Naviks for $399 that allows phone mirroring.
