2017 Tahoe Premier terrible ride quality

New 17 Tahoe w/20" Continental. Have had multiple Tahoe's over the years and this one is nice except for the unexpected crappy ride and handling. On rougher roads or over bumpy areas the back end will actually jump around like the suspension is ridged and you are constantly chasing the wheel. On the highway it is fine unless you hit a rough bridge joint and it will jump out. Had to get a rental and was a 17 Yukon with 18" package and it drove like a dream over the same roads. Just had dealer swap for a take off set of 18" to run this weekend. Have read a lot about different opinions for the magnetic ride control.....not so sure that's a good thing. friends have a 16 "Burb" w/22" and that is awesome to drive. Why does GM have to always mess up a good thing!! Anyone else have this issue? Thanks for reading

This makes me really worried about my new order, I too ordered with the 20' rims.. I was really excited about the magnetic ride control (figured if it's good enough for Ferrari to licence from GM then it must be pretty damn good) It's one of the reasons I took the premier over a loaded up LT that was on the lot (and I took the wife with me and she wouldn't let me take home the nice new ATS-V Coupe that was on the lot

 

Please let me know if anyone else has this issue, I have a cabin tucked into the mountains up here and it's on a dirt road don't want the truck going crazy

I have came to the conclusion that I hate magnetic ride control on these trucks and SUV. I truly prefer the standard suspension. I was so close to pulling the trigger on a 16 sierra Denali, but hated the ride. My 07 rides better. Crap, the 2500 hd diesel I'm looking at rides better.

I have 2015 Sierra Denali with MR and it rides great. I got to drive a 2017 DC loaner Z71 and I thought it rode worse.

A license to Ferrari for Magnetic Ride (MR) based on how it works in a Vette or Camaro is great. But MR on a fullsize SUV still has growing pains to go through. The stiff MR suspension doesn't seem to be a good fit for these trucks.

Called the dealer, getting an LT instead but they said it had rear air ride because I wanted the tow package.. idk how crazy I feel about that either, why can't GM keep things simple, if I wanted a comfy SUV I'd shell out for a Escalde ?

I think you will like the air ride. Especially for towing. The escalade won't ride any better than your premier.

 

The MR control is great for a sports car, but not impressed with the trucks. I have drove multiple trucks and SUVs with it and wanted to love it. Nope

 

I fully understand I don't buy a truck for the ride. I'm fine with a 2500 hd riding like a brick but when you buy a Denali I expect a certain ride quality.

The escalade won't ride any better than your premier.

 

66Nova is correct (nice Muscle BTW), MR is "supposed" to be the top of the line suspension in the fullsize SUV line. I think the trucks will be better served with PR (Premium Ride) suspension. MR has folks believing they can take curves and turns like a sports car, when it's just the new soccer mom replacement truck with more hauling and towing capacity. I have PR with personal complaints, but I think it works better with these trucks vs MR.

I'm new to this forum but I've been a member of other forums since owning prior Chevy's. I just purchased a 2017 Tahoe loaded premier w/20" Continental's and just got back from Northern California (drove about 2000 miles) and I thought it drove and rode great. I had a 2003 Z71 Tahoe that I thought handled bad until I put new Michelin tires on. I just traded a 2013 Traverse LTZ for the 17 Tahoe and it rode ok also but it was front wheel drive and no comparison with rear wheel drive. Hope you find the trouble and let us know what it is. I have a '17 Suburban Premier with 20" wheels with magnetic ride control and I also think it handles great! About 7500 miles and zero issues so far!

I agree, our 16 Tahoe LTZ with 22's rides/drives great.

I have 22's and it's not the tires. Michelin's greatly improved the ride. Its the mag ride. Way too tight for this truck. Impressive when you hit an off ramp too fast but otherwise not a plush ride. Needed the 6.2 motor but hate the mag ride, there is no reason it cant be adjustable.

I love the MRC on my truck. Previous trucks I've owned have all been under-damped. I hate it when going over a bump and the rear bounces through a couple of oscillations. The MRC makes the truck ride tight. I haven't driven the PR suspension.
