Popping noise after leveling kit installed

Recommended Posts

Hi everyone. I have a brand new 2017 Silverado Z71 1500 4x4. I had a company install a 3 and 1 leveling kit on the truck so I could eventually goto a bigger tire. It's only 3 weeks in and now the driver side front tire area is marking a popping noise when I make a slight turn. I'm not sure what it is. Someone told me it could be the cv axle. My worry is that it will void my warranty or what not. But it only has 700 miles on it and I'm already having this issue. Could the lift have anything to do with it or could it be something from the factory?

The lift has all to do with it most likely. What brand kit? Did it have an upper strut spacer and a lower strut spacer? One guy on here had to pull the upper one out as that was causing his noise when turning.

At brief glance it's got lower shock spacers like the rough county kit. Did you install the lower spacers with the bolt head on top, and the nut at the bottom? It seems some folks take the easy way by installing the bolt from the bottom up with the nut on top...,which is great until the extra threaded portion of the bolt starts hitting the cv during driving. Look at photo 9 in the below install guide.

And ps, anything can void warranty. If the part or install caused the failure, then yea, most places will void it.

Magnuson Moss Warranty Act requires manufacturers to honor their warranties, the manufacturer has to directly prove that the aftermarket part has caused a factory part to fail.

Yea, well after the dealer rejects the warranty repair cause it's aftermarket or not installed properly or the moon is in half eclipse, you get to spend the next 2 months or more fighting. Then you go to GM, and they may decline. The point being the act is great, but it's an uphill battle.

+1

You should start with the company that installed the kit, not the dealer.
