8 speed garbage

Recommended Posts

Well I've finally had enough. My 2017 6.2 8 speed is going in to the local Chevy dealer to see what they can come up with. I already know where this is going to end up, being GM doesn't have a for sure fix for the hard shifting, hunting, and all around garbage that is the 8 speed.

So the transmission has failed and the vehicle is inoperable?

It has not failed in the sense that the pickup doesn't drive. But as far as being what I would call normal, it is far from it.

8speed transmissions across the board have sloppy shifting issues including gm, Chrysler, ford, and i guess subaru (dads had 2 with issues). Even the torque converter shake is across the board, just varys on how bad. Custom tune will solve the shifting fyi

I'm a little curious as to how this will effect longevity. I've seen a few come in where I work and even new ones on the lot shift like garbage

Manufacturers cant make a smooth shifting tune to meet the epa requirements from what im told. There programmed to shift to 6th asap, but when you smack the throttle your generally switching from v4 to v8 And dropping a few gears.

Good luck getting it fixed! And expect a few new door dings when you go to pick your truck back up.

Had mine in many times under warranty. The jerky shifting and highway vibration are unchanged. Just a few more door dings!

I had the TC replaced and the stator shaft replacement for the delayed engagement. That included a TCM reprogram and I can honestly tell you it is greatly improved and acceptable. I am certain it is just tuning that GM doesnt focus on. My Mercedes is always in the right gear, never clunks, or gets confused and has 7 gears. I really like the 8 speed for towing and drivability but in town or slower driving it can clunk, or get confused and is annoying. Eventually someone will have a tune for it as that is all it needs.

In response to your concern GM increased the transmission warranty from 100,000 miles to 60,000 miles in a show of product confidence.
