Katzkin installed in my 2015 Double Cab

Recommended Posts

I paid the truck off a few months ago and wanted to do some upgrades.

My wife hated that the PS had no lumbar so I picked up a bare 2016 power seat frame off ebay (only place I could find an affordable seat! - local yards wanted $6-700 each and a core charge?) My DS seat was already full power.

This is the PS seat frame I picked up. I quickly figured out my SRS equipment/wiring was not the same. So I swapped all of my SRS equipment (wires, sensors, airbag, etc) to the new seat and added the power wiring harness to it. The last pic is the extra parts/carnage.

I'm actually like 99% done, I still have to finish the rear head rests.

Overall, very happy with the front seats. I was able to work them to get almost every wrinkle out.

I did not like the back seat bottoms. They went on differently than the stock bottoms and were a little difficult to get right without wrinkles, and even still, they seem a bit "loose" but there is no real way to adjust or snug them up. They should have done them like the rear seatbacks, where the bottom opens up and is velcro-ed, that way they could be tightened up a bit.

The jump seat was awful. Lots of parts. You're supposed to use an upholstery stapler in a few areas, which I don't have, so I made due with gorilla glue. Once the plastic pieces are reassembled they help "hold" the covers as well.

Anyway, I just wanted to show that a novice can get a "shop quality" install in your garage. There was some complaints in another popular thread where the seats looked loose and wrinkled.

And YES, they are noticeably more comfortable than stock cloth.

In addition to the leather being a thicker material, there is a +/- 1/4"? thick padding sewn into the seat butt and back areas.

The first 2015 I ever test drove was a loaded 2LT with power everything seats with leather. The dealer didn't want to play ball on that one, so I went to another dealer that had what I wanted (Ocean Blue Metallic, 5.3L, 2LT Z71 DC, 6.5' bed) and bought that one for 7K below sticker.

That looks great! Well done.

Seems like MUCH more than I could tackle.

I have leather and have emailed Katzskin to ask if I can order a color-matched driver seat bottom ordered/installed separately. I am making the assumption that Katz leather is better quality than the OEM.

Thanks!

Yes, it's not "easy" but if you can take something apart and put it back together without breaking half of the parts and with extra pieces at the end, it's not that hard. The console definitely tried my patience a few times!

.

...and I realized I put this in the wrong damn forum... meant to go in the accessories... argh

Had Katzkin in my 2007.5 and as the current pics show it held up well for the 10 years I owned it. Similar to OEM in quality - still has vinyl in the non seating areas. But the color and customization options are endless. The installer sent a pic of my pinstripes to Katzkin who embroidered the seats to match. The price installed was reasonable.

The 2007.5 cloth material was a real lint collector - GM even had a TSB out on it.

The 2017 I was smart enough to order factory leather heated/cooled etc.

You did a real good job on the installation. All the rest of the DIY jobs were pretty wrinkled

Those seats are the next on my list but I think I will pay to have them done. Man has to know his limitations
