Wife backed into a pole... anyone replace rear bumper (OEM)?

Recommended Posts

A couple of weeks back I'm at a meeting in our daily driver car, leaving my wife the truck to drive to the gym. Came back and she showed me the damaged rear bumper where she was trying to get aligned in a parking spot with the truck and backed into a pole. Yes, it was the only pole in a nearly empty parking lot :) but everyone has their moment to do something like that sometime... Not mad, just trying to figure out how to get fixed. Doing ourselves, not going through insurance.

Have reached out to a couple of paintless dent removal (PDR) guys and was told that the metal on the bumper is stronger stuff than a body part so not likely to be able to PDR a fix. I've searched for posts / threads here in this section without luck.

I started off looking for used parts; no luck so far on that. Would be great to find a front end collision black truck that I could transplant but there don't seem to be any out there I can locate.

So I started looking for new replacement parts. Recognize the bumper reinforcement underneath might need some work too, but rolling the dice it doesn't based on the damage.

This looks like the part, but comes unpainted so that's another to-do. I'll live with the scuff on the top pad.

Anyone done this before on our model and have advice? Had PDR done on the rear bumper successfully? Where to source the part that's any better than what I have above (and if so, any that sell painted)?

Easy job. Just get one off of CL.

Finding a painted black rear bumper in perfect shape is going to be near impossible.

That is going to be some money there, myself I would probably go through insurance but between your deductible, insurance rate increase, and dirty Carfax I don't know if it would be worth it.

Oh really? Just post a flier in the hood of what you are looking for and what shape you want it in. You will have it by sun up.

Thanks martha! Dallas is a pretty far but luckily I have a brother in law there. I emailed the guy - would take some refinishing but certainly a lot cheaper than new!

Saw that second one as well but (as you did since you edited) saw it was dented almost as bad as mine.

We get a lot of folks here in Dallas that immediately swap their factory bumpers...both color match and chrome for Ranch Hand bumpers. That is how i got my color match bumper. Came off a Denali. I paid $360 for mine. It was in perfect shape. I dinged mine after losing a small trailer (came unhitched) and smack into me 3 times. Got 3 nice dings in it. Used it as an opportunity to begin swapping for color match.

  • 2 weeks later...

Went after the one below with my brother and law picking up. Had an appointment to pick up that same weekend as post above and the seller just stops answering the phone or responding to his texts. Finally responded to email saying it was sold. Hate flaky CL sellers, ok that it sold to someone else, but at least have the decency to respond and let another buyer you've set up time with know.

If anybody runs across another one please let me know!
