Fuel Issues

Recommended Posts

I have a 2001 2500HD. The engine Seams to kick down to 4 Cylinders every now and then when I am starting off. If I flick the key on/off real fast it starts running normal. Truck has new fuel pump, fuel filter and Idle air control valve. But still does this. I have heard everything from Oxygen Sensor to TP Sensor.

No warning lights.

I realize there's no check engine light, but do you have the ability to read any DTC's stored in the ECM, or stop by an auto parts store, most all will read them for free.

Does it run good once warmed up? If so it's probably your upstream o2 sensor, not sure which bank. You'll need a scanner plugged in on a cold start to be sure. Watch your fuel trims.

Just had this problem on my 01. It would start cold and run good for a minute or 2, then it would start misfiring terribly. Once it warmed up to operating temp it would run fine. This is because the heater failed. The sensor itself was fine, but the heating element went bad

Went to autozone they found no issues when they hooked up to computer. I think the ABS light comes on when this happens.

You need a good code reader to monitor the fuel trims. Figure out which bank or which cylinders are misfiring.

Even with a nice snap on scanner, the o2 sensor code took a long time to show up, I got very frustrated in the mean time. Threw a bunch of parts at it. I'd say be patient and capture it on a scanner, it'll reveal your problem

That being said, I'm willing to bet it's one or both of your upstream o2 sensors going bad
