Lo pro tonneaus and using the bed

Recommended Posts

Hi guys,

New guy here, just relocated to Houston. Had a quick question about inside-rail mount roll up tonneau covers like the Lo Pro QT or Genesis Elite. I have one on my truck, but I am going to be using my truck to haul some mulch and top soil, which will be dumped in the bed with a bobcat. The tonneau rails intrude a few inches inside the bed rails. I have the 5.8 bed. Has anyone had any issues with the tonneau rails being too much in the way for them to load the dirt in the truck. Obviously I don't mind them getting dirty, I'd just like to know if too much will get on them and spill outside the truck and not go IN the bed haha. I think I might take the actual tonneau cover off, but would like to leave the rails if possible as they are a PITA to take off and on too much. Anyway, thanks and great site.

I've got a hard folding with inner rails. No issues taking a yard of gravel or crushed stone. Biggest issue is the crap thats fallen between the tailgate and bed when your all done

Should have no problem. Most likely load the dirt/mulch parallel to the rail anyways. Any loader with experience won't even touch em. Worst is the rear bumper and between the tailgate and bed. I've laid a tarp down, over the bed and down into the truck, that way when you drop the tailgate, it doesn't bind up between when material falls in that gap. Had that happen with stones once, had to take the tailgate off with 1,000 lbs of stones pushing against it.

No issues at all with my lo pro QT and having yards of mulch dropped in there. Just have to hose it off the Velcro.

Good excuse to buy a trailer - I finally did after 10 years of struggling with a hard cover...........

I always lay a tarp or plastic in the bed and over the sides, then fold it over and throw a strap over it to keep it down on the way home. Tarp/poly makes for easy clean up.
