Acid rain on whole truck

Recommended Posts

I bought my truck 2 years ago had the dealer fix the pinstripe that was on it and apply a paint protectant "Zurich Shield". A couple months after applying the "protective" layer I experienced what looked like hard water spots all over the paint and windows of my truck. The worst was on the hood and windows but was still on the whole truck. Went to the dealer where I bought and they do a warranty claim from Zurich shield for me. It has been in the body shop for 2 days and is expected to be ready in 4 more days. They put me in a 2017 Colorado for the time being.e6896d21c5c4b5ab50d580f0c0084177.jpg764d6515e60fc5889ece1c36c4f91431.jpg88697beae7495e0cc2be6257a3d71b9e.jpg0a5adae282e77da9a51e07bcbcc2ff2f.jpg23626da9b9f89138985cbc5e5abdb016.jpg1bca492870b6bcf357352f68dc9f92de.jpg

Looks to me like someone washed their truck in the sun and it dried and left water spots that stained the paint. Dark colored paint is hard on water spots...need to wash only in cloudy days or like I do sometimes when sunny days are in a row I wash parts at a time and dry right away to prevent spots...sucks I know but with todays paint it's a must. Don't hear too much on acid rain these days.

Looks like hard water. Do you have a well?

A well? Do you think it could be the well he used or the bucket that he pulled the water from ?

Looks like hard water etching. I bought a CR Spotless filter to eliminate the water spots. Works great. I just wash as normal and then do a good thorough final rinse with the CR Spotless filtered water. Works great.

Will look into this...looks like a good ideal!

I do have a well but am sure to only work on one part of the truck at a time and always dry it off. I feel like they applied the protective sealant wrong or didn't even apply it when they said they did

Did they apply this Zurich stuff to the window glass also? You can see in your pictures that the glass is badly water spot etched also...... The DI water units use a filter resin that removes all of the minerals and chemicals. Once you do a thorough rinse with DI water your car or truck can dry in direct sunshine without spotting (it amazes me every time). Saves time plus minimizes scratches from the drying chamois or microfiber towels whichever you choose to use. I have a 2000 Ford Windstar van that I do not waste the DI water on when I wash it the clear-coat does not seem to be as affected by the water spots as this 2017 GMC Sierra. I figure there is something to the thoughts about the newer paint and clear-coat formulations not being quite as tough as in the "olden days" these new finishes are really pretty but seem to require much more care when washing.......... Just washed old blue this morning and used the CR Spotless to rinse in partial sun, pics attached left water on truck paint and glass (no hand drying)....I can vouch for the system it is expensive but it REALLY DOES work. I will never do without one again as long as I can afford it LOL.
