MIT right for me?

Recommended Posts

Hey,

Just upgraded from a 2010 5.3L to a 2017 Redline with the 6.2L. My old truck had the K&N CAI & a Magnaflow exhaust. New one thus far just has the GM/Borla dual exhaust.

So I'm not interested in dropping big money on a CAI that is enclosed like the Volant, and think getting a CAI from K&N would be a step back since they take in warm engine air from under the hood.

So have been doing a lot of reading on the Airaid 200-911 MIT. Have a few questions though:

-This tube with the factory paper filter, will I get a louder 'growl' from the engine compartment/exhaust? This is actually the main thing I am looking for as am missing this some from my old K&N

-Will I notice a benefit to my MPG/Throttle response with the paper filter & MIT?

-Will the 200-911 even fit m truck? I see no reason it wouldn't but it is not listed on their website, and after emailing their customer support, they were unsure and recomended I didn't install it...

I'll likely upgrade the filter once it is worn to AEM 28-20129 Dryflow filter but that could be in a year or so. I may also just stick with paper filters as not interested in letting fine dust get into my motor just to gain a bit of extra air flow.

Any input from guys with this set up would be appreciated.

Thanks

Do the MIT with oem paper. You will get a more pronounced sound with a slight throttle response improvement. I had the airaid jr kit, but had to leave the filter with old truck; paper filters are cheap and just as good when clean. I love those redlines - just drove one a couple days ago while my truck was getting warranty work. Good looking truck, but I really like my current setup which I have made a bit redline...

Nice changes to your avalanche! Appreciate your input. After posting, I found this thread which has really got me thinking: http://www.gm-trucks.com/forums/topic/190580-2016-gm-independent-air-intake-testing-black-bear-performance/page-1

Essentially MIT adds nothing but sound (if any?). In one way that is good as it won't affect timing/leaning out of my motor, but would have been nice nice if it added 'something'... Still unsure if better to just leave stock..

Thanks. Check blackbear performance. They did a test on cai. On the gmt 900, the airaid jr (mit plus filter) got 9hp I think? They have results on 6.2 up now (havent looked yet). I found throttle response improved after adding mine...

If interested see the link in my above post. The first post in that link is from BB and has a hyperlink to the 6.2L results.

MIT doesn't look to be worth it for the gains, IMO

That's my thoughts at the moment. Seems they (GM) fixed most the tube restrictions from the previous generation of trucks.

Knew performance gains with MIT might be less than a full CAI but thought would he more than 0...

Yeah, they did a 5.3 test first on last gen non di engine which showed airraid jr doing well. The newer test shows the mit is essentially useless with the gen v 6.2. I am surprised with some of the big gains on volant and afe with the 6.2 though - 27 hp is worth the price imo...

Look up the tests blackbear tuning did on the new 6.2s with all the common CAIs. Gives hp and tq numbers as well as dyno graph. Very interesting, wish I had seen that before I bought my MIT.

I bought a used airaid mit here on the forums and it's working great, didn't notice an increase in mpg's but it seems to be pulling harder than previously before.

airaid mit + aem dryflow filter is what i'm running.

I've got the 5.3 and I'm interested if anyone knows about the MIT for that? I'd like to add a bit more growl (stock intake and exhaust but that will change) and more throttle response. I've got the BB tune which I had set at their 87-89oct setting but just bumped it up to 91+ this am and def noticed a difference. Somehow also gained 1.5~ MPG with the jump from 89 to 93oct.
