Tire tread depth replacement

I have got the stock tires on my truck from when it was new.

I have over 80,000 miles on them and they are reading 4/32 tread left. They were at 5/32 in March.

That was about 3,000 miles ago.

I know it is getting time to replace them, I just wanted to see if you guys let them go down farther than that.

I know I will have to replace them before we start getting rain here in So Calif. around the end of September or beginning of October.

Up here in NY we try selling at 5/32 or 4/32 or less if its before winter time, for those that don't run a separate winter set of wheels/tires. In your case, I think total water effectiveness is lost below 3/32.

pretty sure the standard recommendation for all types of tires is to replace at 3/32.

I will not have my factory tires on anymore by then anyway, because I have to drive through snow. I have taken my cars down to that level, but always put new tires on that fall. If you are in a desert and don't drive on wet roads ever, I guess you could risk it.

With 80K miles you got your money's worth out of stock tires. At 4/32s I would go ahead and replace them if you have the funds. No reason trying to squeeze more out of them with the winter weather conditions coming soon be it rain or snow. Just looking at your safety and those around you.
