Spare Tire

I'm not sure if this is been discussed.

For those who have upgraded their tires to 33, 34, and 35 inch tires... do you keep your spare tire underneath the bed? Is the diameter difference so great that it will piss off the computer? I was just thinking whether or not I should just pull the spare and leave it in the shed because I'm not sure if my truck would be driveable with that small (oem)of a tire.

I have 275/65-20 tires

For a short drive, a smaller tire won't be noticeable...as long as you drive normally, the computer should just think you're making a long sweeping curve.

Short drive like 20-50 miles?

Yeah, I'm guessing you're not going to drive cross country that way? Most of us live not to far from a tire shop.

I'm almost to the point of losing mine for weight savings...in the past 20 years I have never used the spare.

I've thought the same thing or seeing if I can fit a 34" tire up there

I can't remember, I want to say someone did that with good results...the factory tire is what, 32"? Just might lose some clearance because of tire width.

Good point. Unless you have dual rear pipes. Lol. I should go back to stock

  • 2 weeks later...

The only time I needed the spare in 5 yrs of driving my previous truck it would not come down and was useless anyway. Either get rid off it or take it down and lubricate the mechanism every so often.

Yeah, that happened with many 800's & 900's I didn't have problems. These K2's fit my spare just snuggly with Sway bar and hopefully I don't have to use it......I probably will though!
