voltage meter question

My work truck, 2017 Silverado 3500 6.0, has a volt meter that behaves just like you describe. My personal truck, 2016 Sierra 2500 6.0, stays right in the middle. The only difference in the two is that the work truck has two batteries, personal truck has one.

Normal. GM has been doing computer-controlled alternator output for like 10 years. It'll go up and down as needed.

In the 1500s, yes...the HDs I'm not so sure. My 2012 doesn't do this...it's always between 14.1 and 15.0 depending on the temperature.

 

That's a stand-alone gauge also...

My 17 HD does it too... turn the lights on and increase the draw.. the gauge will bump up to mid scale around 14.. again... it's a normal thing lol. Is it causing an issue to anyone here?? No lol...
