Engine brake tic

Recommended Posts

While the engine brake on my truck works great there is a slight ticking noise that is also audible at the same time. Is normal? Not many miles on it so I just want to be sure there isn't a exhaust leak somewhere. Thanks for any input. L5P

L5P's (at least the early ones) are known to have a 'decel tick' but it's not due to the exhaust brake.

It doesn't hurt anything (some sort of self check is happening) but there is a programming update available the includes changes which reduce or eliminate the decel.

Exhaust brake just adjusts the variable vane in the turbo, which shouldn't cause a tick.

I find it curious that my '18 has the decel tick, I would think being built 10/17 the latest would be present

I would think it would have the latest as well.

Maybe the update didn't do what it said OR perhaps the noises you are hearing aren't the ones addressed by the changes.

Even without the decel tick that the forums were talking about on the L5P,  the 6.6's definitely make lots of noises that are different from the DI gas motors.

Separate subject, but have you had the programming update/recall that was announced on Nov 1 applied to your L5P?  If built late eough in Oct it might not have needed it.
