Be safe! Hopefully it isnt as bad as they are saying

I appreciate it man. Honestly, they usually/never have been as bad as hyped. I've lived here in Tampa my whole life. Growing up the joke was that "hurricane days" were actually more like beach days. Life's different now thougj. Everywhere is depleted of supplies and Can't afford to have no power and streets flooded with a 1 and 9 yr old...

Never been the one to leave. I would ride it out in a heart beat. Forecasts are just that. An educated guess of what might happen in the future. Everyone blew the rain forecast on Harvey. 12-15 inches of rain turned to 50 plus inches of rain in a few days. Oh well, that is what insurance is for.

I don't think that was the case, they didn't want people drowning on the highways tying to leave. I think in our case (Houston) the right call was made.

I think the governor of Florida has handled this situation pretty well so far. We've had mandatory evacuations in place for days in many counties. All counties were placed in a state of emergency for about a week now. They also suspended all tolls on toll roads and opened up the shoulders on the highway to help people get out. There are a lot of people who refuse to leave. Usually I'm one of them. My mom just stayed behind and said she wasn't going anywhere. She's also an idiot. We live in zone a for flooding evactuation (closest to the water- first to have to leave) Damn near no one is boarded up nor evacuating. This is the 1st time in 29 yrs living there that I've ever put a board up, put down a sand bag, or considered leaving.

It is different when you are responsible for children. You are doing the right thing! Be safe. BTW. I have never experienced a major evacuation like this but I have experienced an elderly obstinate mother. When she would refuse to go with me to doctors etc. I'd ask her which coat she wanted to wear. I always let her feel she had some control but not over decisions that could bring her harm. I doubt your mother is an idiot.

That's true. Priorities changed once I had them. As far as my mom, Definitely could've rephrased it. She is beyond frustrating to the point where it is detrimental. I'm trying to get her and her roommate to a nearby shelter now.

It hit me as a strong cat 1 or weak cat 2 I think. Lost power around midnight so going on 6.5 hours or so w/o it. No major damage on my street that I could see. Deputy buddy was told to get back out on the streets so he did a once over of some of my neighborhood and my street. He didn't see anything major either. My buddy a couple streets down from me has a flooded street but no house flooding last I heard. Another down in Lakeland was damn close to getting water in the house last I heard from him. Still getting some good wind gusts here.

Glad y'all ended up ok. When I made it back to town there wasn't anything bad at my hoause besides no power. Finally got it back this past Saturday so 6 days without. Luckily, I travel between tampa and Orlando areas for work and my company pays for my hotels so I just took the family with me to work so they had some bit of comfort. I did one night without power, but my 1 yr old was screaming her head of because it was too hot. Ended up sleeping in my truck so she could sleep.

I've heard insurance or even FEMA have reimbursed people for hotel stays because of hurricanes. I'll be getting a whole house generator eventually, even w/o hurricanes the power grid is crap so one of our summer thunderstorms has the potential to knock out power for a few hours. Out of everyone on my street I think I have the least amount of debris and I think most of mine are from the neighbors. Everyone else seems to have a bunch of yard waste stacked out and waiting to be taken, I've got 3 trash cans. My other property had power for the business but the storage house I keep behind it didn't have power and that's what the well runs off of so no water for my renters. Power for that came back on Sunday sometime. I think I have a friend or two w/o power still, I know last I heard Duke had 80k or so w/o power still. Overall we lucked out, it could have been much worse. South Florida got wrecked, keys too. Apparently PR is getting hammered again right now too. I think Maria was a cat 5 when it hit PR.

Definitely check out the FEMA reimbursement. I had a couple friends get approved for $500+. My fiancee researched and applied and she just sent me a screenshot of our FEMA letter saying we are approved for a reimbursement of $1000.
