Spark plugs

I was considering changing my plugs and wires. I bought my truck with 120k on it and I don't know when/if the previous owner replaced the plugs. I just went and pulled one of them to inspect it and it actually looked pretty good? What do y'all think?

 

To change or not to change?

They Look more like a normal Port injected plug should look like? The negative side not even worn? I just did mine at 40K and they all gaped exactly at .040" Problem was all were Black soot coated and what a GDI plug normally looks like....Plus the plugs on front of engine Drivers side had more coating soot than say back #8cyl.....most likely the PCV routing of byproducts being recaptured which is odd because I have a Catch Can.

 

Another guy posted his plugs recently and they looked exactly like mine "GDI looking" and his #8 looked similar too? I don't know anymore other than GDI runs like shit after awhile and PLUGS/OIL can't be neglected! Otherwise it just compounds rather quickly with GDI's you will see soon enough if your lazy with them..........

 

Also, I did a BG FUEL and AIR INDUCTION Cleaning.....and was planning on chucking plugs....maybe they would have looked better without that when I changed them...?

Not sure how many miles you put on truck since purchase, but I would change plugs and wires as fresh start..

Check out oil and do oil / filter change, transfer and diferential fluids as simple base line..

 

Also give trans the fluid sniff test to vaidate it's not burnt..

It may need replacing, with or without trans filter..

 

Your truck now,, treat it well...

Check out oil and do oil / filter change, transfer and diferential fluids as simple base line..

 

Also give trans the fluid sniff test to vaidate it's not burnt..

It may need replacing, with or without trans filter..

I've put 10k on it. It now has 130k. I've been changing oil and filter regularly as well as front brake pads and rotors. Also changed brake drum hardware but shoes had a lot of life left. Haven't looked at many spark plugs. If they are good no sense in wasting $40 when I could spend it on something else like SS brake lines or shocks [emoji106] but if they look pretty worn I have no problems replacing them and they wires. Trans fluid is nice and pink. Very slight browning to it (opposed to brand new fluid) so I'm comfortable with it. I'll get the filter and fluid changed in the near future though.

Disregard my Post! I can see your Plugs are not GDI plugs now, so this makes sense to me now...You have Non-K2

I justify the expense by saying that it will improve fuel mileage, they could be worn out, they could be the wrong type, it gives me a look at how the combustion process is fairing, shows oil consumption issues, the gap could be wrong, etc etc etc. Bottom line - I like changing spark plugs.

Well then, my guess is that those plugs have about 20k miles on them.

I'm guessing they're fairly new. Being iridium I'm going to give them a few thousand miles and change them out. It's not missing, idling rough, or anything right now.

Leave them in. The factory spec plugs on those engines last just short of forever. If anything, pop them out and put a bit of antiseize on the threads and re-install them. They'll be good for another 100k miles easy, if not 150k miles. No point in wasting money by replacing things that are still fine & have a lot of good life left in them.

I bought my 2010 and changed plugs at 103. not sure if theyd ever been changed but they did look pretty much like those. that being said, the truck ran smoother with new plugs for a little while
