Anyone noticed how cheap these trucks are to insure?

Recommended Posts

I was fiddling around with my insurance company's quote generator last night, plugging in different configurations of the Silverado as well as other trucks and larger SUV's. I know insurance is pretty nebulous and varies alot per person but dang, my Silverado was almost half as much to insure as some other full sized trucks! And I never picked higher trim levels either, I only played with cab and engine size, and whether or not it had 4x4.

$1500 a year with $1000 deductible isn't exactly cheap IMO, but it was only $150 more than I was paying for my 2008 tacoma.

Better than paying $2400 a year. I do have a $500 deductible. Can't expect to pay less only being 21.

Depends on where you live i guess. I have a perfect driving record here in Taxachusetts, but the rates keep increasing. I have daughter under 25 who really pays through the nose. I was actually surprised my rate only increased $150 going from a Tacoma that was worth about 8k to a 50k silverado.

I pay about $4300 a year for the truck, wife's Volvo, my Harley and my 38' travel trailer. Home owners is another $1300..

We won't even talk about excise tax bills i get from the city for the above mentioned vehicles. It is what it is.

I thank my lucky stars everyday that the wife and I are both fortunate to have good jobs and are able to for life's little luxuries!

Agree, it's all about location. Perfect record and no claims other than windshields (no deductible glass coverage in AZ). And the rate was higher than my 15 Camaro SS convertible. That surprised me.

I pay less for my 2016 Silverado than for my wife's 2015 Malibu and our total cost for both is actually not much more than the lowest cost mentioned here so far for just a truck and we have lower deductibles. As mentioned there are lots of factors involved in what someone pays with our biggest benefits being age, driving records, miles driven annually (I have just over 5,000 miles since June 2016 and her 2015 Malibu actually has less than 4,000 miles), 30+ years with the same company and we get a good discount for multiple vehicles as well as combining with home owners insurance. The drawbacks to this good deal are you have to get old, get a house, get a wife with a car, you can't drive too much, you can't run into sh!t and you can't get "caught" driving crazy!
