Infotainment input changes with incoming txt msgs

I have a weird problem that I haven't seen covered anywhere else either here or on the internet. Maybe it's because I'm entering the proper search terms but I'm hoping someone will recognize the the issue and point me in the right direction. Last week I got the new Galaxy Note 8 phone. Set it up in my 2015 Sierra SLT and ever since then, when ever I receive any type of notification like a txt message, email, or other type that would make a sound or vibration, it changes the input on my radio to either the iPod, XM Radio, or the Hard Drive I have connected via USB cable.

 

My S7 Edge never did this, so I can't understand why it would change the input mode.

My iPhone does this. Try putting your phone on silent/vibrate.
