2017 DEF tank aftermarket skid plate???

Recommended Posts

New member here so sorry if this has been asked and talked about before I tryed using the search and couldn't really find anything on the topic I was looking for. I have a 2017 Silverado 2500 HD with the ugly looking DEF tank. As to my knowledge the plastic factory skid can be removed and so I was wondering if I could find a aftermarket skid plate just to help the looks a little bit and bring up the actual looks of the tank so it's not hanging down so low but after much searching on the internet I can only find aftermarket skids that fit up to 2016 Silverados anyone on here have any other resources on where to get a 17 skid or what they have done to help with hiding the tank? I am still doing research to try to find out if the N Fab step bars will even fit or if they have bars to fit yet or the AMP Research steps will fit yet with this tank?

OEM on the L5P have a metal skid on the bottom and the plastic covers the edges and the sides.

Thanks. I guess ehat im really wanting is to remove the plastic shrouds from the side then and was hoping a company made a aftermarket skid to help with just the appearance part and hopefully in removing the plastic factory skid it would help hide the def tank more with the addition of some nfab steps a amp steps?

I swear i read that some outfit made a retro fit kit for that DEF tank and it moves to a better spot. It was about 500.00. Ill look around see if I can find the link. I know I remember reading about them back in 2015 right when I bought my gasser .http://www.orfab.com/instructions/87030.pdf Turned out to be a metal skid plate not a DEF relocate kit. But the pic it looks decent for 2011-2016 2500.

Thanks yeah I looked at those tanks Skyjacker Fabtech and a couple others but the tank was changed in 2017 and does not fit the 2016 stuff. From what the member said above it sounds like the 2016 and below didn't have any kind of plastic Shield protecting it but what I'm seeing on my 2017 truck it does and what I'm saying is not actually the tank it's like a plastic shroud covering it on the sides? What I assumed everyone was doing on the 2016 was taking the factory cover / skid plate off and replacing with a much sleeker looking aftermarket skid and that's what I thought I could do with my 2017.

16 and earlier do have a plastic shield on the tank. (but early '11's didn't) 16 and earlier had a different, lower volume tank.

Bottom of actual tank is at or above the bottom of the frame (same relationship to frame as the fuel tank). Rarely, if ever, hear about damage to either.

Yeah to my knowledge the 17' have a larger capacity tank. I am looking for any way to make this thing hide better, look smaller in appearance, or remove the factory skid shrouds with some some sort of aftermarket skid. Or I guess possibly some sort of relocate kit for the 17'.
