Sierra Frame Changes 2014 thru 2017 ?

Recommended Posts

Good Evening,

I am interested if anyone has any information about frame changes on the Sierra 1500's from 2014 through 2017.

I just purchased a 2107 and it has an unbelievable stiif harsh ride and I am being told they beefed up the frame. I traded a 2014 Sierra that had an extremely nice smooth ride and not at all harsh.

Does anyone out there know if in fact the frame was changed since 2014? It would be good for me to know. Thanks in advance

Both vehicles had the same suspension package. Both build sheets the same . 60 suspension package . XLT 4x4, identical vehicles except the new one has the optional brake controller. It does not have the. Mac trailer package which would have been heavier leaf springs . I have gone from Good Year Eagles LS2 to Michelin LTX ms2, to Michelin Premier LTX 's to try to soften ride. Have to run 30lbs pressure to get half acceptable ride . HELP

Note that shocks with 3 years and 36,000 miles (estimated) will ride significantly differently than new shocks.

If you don't like the ride, something has to change. Just asking about frame changes won't fix it. Seems like you have about three choices: 1) get a different vehicle 2) get 17" or 18" wheels and tires 3) get new struts/coil springs/shocks. And you can combine any of those three as well.

If you think the truck is the issue, test drive another equivalent one on the dealer lot. If you really think the frame is the issue, talk to the person that gave you that info and ask him to back it up. And even if the frame is the issue (which I don't personally believe it is) you're still left to the three choices above.

Oh Rick, I guess you are right. People should expect to have to change struts, springs and shocks if they buy a new 2017 Sierra. They should just list it as an optional equipment .

Z60 on both vehicles.

Apparently, changing the struts/coil springs/shocks is too hard, and we would rather come here and constantly complain about it.

Mine is a Z71, and rides very well. It has the 20" wheels. You are definitely in the minority here. Most guys rave about the ride and overall comfort these trucks provide. Since you are obviously irritated with the ride, your only recourse is to change the wheels/tires, then the suspension components. Your dealer is inept if they can't or won't figure out how to satisfy you.

Rick, I compared the z71 parts and found that the leaf springs are the same on the Z71 and my truck. That leaves me to believe that the only difference is the Rancho shocks and a rock cover. Is that correct?

The front spindles are Z71 and Z85 specific. The others use another part number.

There are 4 different front coil springs listed for non-magnetic ride control equipped Sierras

Upper and lower control arms are Z71 and Z85 specific. Other trucks use another part number.

There is only one part number listed for the rear leafs, but 4 numbers for shocks.
