Silverado Fuel Log

Recommended Posts

I used to check my mileage every time I filled up, but I never wrote it down or anything. It was always just a mental thing. As my 2000 Z71 aged, the mileage got worse. I always wished that I had kept track so maybe I could see trends or be able to pinpoint when something started going wrong with my truck. I would also be able to see the effects of leveling out, larger tires, or other mods. Soon after I got the '16 I started recording this using a spreadsheet on my phone. Do any of you do this? Has this ever helped you? Is this a waste of time?

I use an app called Road Trip. Sounds pretty similar to Fuelly. I keep everything for the truck in there. Fuel, oil, tires, etc. as far as I know, it’s only for iPhone.

I've kept a hard copy receipt of every gas purchase for my current truck in an envelope.  I've done nothing with the information and hopefully never will.  Maybe if I noticed more frequent trips for gas these receipts could help determine a pattern.  I do appreciate the improved mileage in these newer trucks when compared to previous generations and no concerns about mileage after 2+ years of ownership.

Thanks for the replies. I've seen Fuelly before and it looks nice, but I didn't see where you could track oil life. I'll be checking Road Trip out soon!

They give you an option to input services to keep track of and you write down the mileage you do it at. I have a book for all mods and what mileage they were done at. But I may switch it to fuelly one day. So far I only have my last oil change in fuelly

Always done it, from a little memo book when I was a kid to an excel spreadsheet now.  Put some top tier 93 in that that truck and watch your mileage climb a couple tenths.

Fixed that for ya...

And then you lose money because of the added cost and no other benefits.

I use aCar and have for several years. It recently updated and I think it is the same as Fuelly. You can track anything with it. If my Sig shows up you can see my lifetime mpg along with the number of fill up since I have had the truck. I have put about 53k miles. I also keep a record of all maintenance I have done to the truck.

I have kept up with mileage on my truck since I drove it off the lot (as well as my other vehicles and motorcycles) and I do the old school excel spreadsheet thing.  Get my receipt when I get gas and then write my the miles from my Trip A on it then reset the trip meter.  My truck has been slowly going down in mpg's in the three years I have owned it and I am now at 22k miles.  My last silverado (2002 Z71) actually got better mileage up to the 50k mile mark and then stayed steady till I got rid of it with 125k miles on it.  I am a little concerned that mpg's are dropping and it could be the characteristic of this latest engine compared to the non DI ones.  I know there are tons of factors that influence mpg's but I was at 19.4 my first year, 19.2 my second year and now that the third year is up I am at 19.0 mpg for the year with a lifetime of 19.15 as of this past weekend.  My 2002 model started out at 17 mpg but crept up to 18.5 mpg's by the time I got rid of it.
