Spork marketing creates interesting infographics comparing vehicles to drum up interest for its clients. We like to pick them apart. The latest comes courtesy of RealVolkswagenParts.com. “Both of these diesel trucks are multipurpose,” says Bob Cockerham, parts manager at RealVolkswagenParts.com. “They’re both equipped with ABS and have traction control, and both are capable of hauling, light towing, and taking on some off-road terrain. But the Amarok handles all of this with more power and fuel efficiency.”

As the infographic shows the VW seems to have some advantages. One we question is the MPG rating. The VW Amarok is a UK vehicle and the gallon in the UK is a larger volume of liquid than a U.S. gallon. We suspect that may be part of the reason it shows a higher MPG. The other may be that the different test cycle in the UK is less conservative than ours.

What did you find most surprising about this matchup? Do you think VW will really bring the Atlas Tanoak it displayed at the New York Auto Show to the U.S.?

Interesting the Amarok has such a higher payload.  Dimensionally they aren't that far apart.  The VW is shorter for sure overall, but its 2" wider.

Highest payload per the brochure above is 2526lbs.  That's 1/2 ton and 3/4 ton territory.  GCWR is up to 13227lbs, and GVWR up to 7253lbs.  Colorado is up to 6200lbs GVWR, and GCWR up to 12700lbs.  Yet it can tow more than the VW?  The Euro Amarok does appear to be a BOF truck, rather than unibody.

Then again, those Euro small trucks are what most countries have, and they have some serious capabilities.  For example, a 2wd Holden Colorado LT crew cab diesel with a pickup box has a payload of 2524lbs, a GVWR of 6945lbs, and GCWR of 13227lbs.  If our US Colorado could do those numbers, nobody would buy a 1/2 ton LOL.

I feel the US spec Amarok, if they make it, would have lower payload capabilities.

GM shut Holden down.  Holden is no more.

Uh...Holden is still a thing.  They just shut down the rear drive Commodore and its chassis mates, and the Austrailian assembly plant they were built in.  Not sure where you get your news...

Their website above has plenty of proof they exist, including the all new front drive Commodore, aka the Buick Regal in the US.

Their build and price even lets you build a 2018 of EVERY model they make, other than old RWD Commodore.

Comparing these SUTs (Sport Utility Truck) to regular body on frame trucks is like comparing a regular van to a mini van.  They are simply not the same.  No matter what numbers you try to use to compare them.  I'm getting tired of the direct comparison when that should not happen.
