Thank goodness for the imports in the mid 70s and on. That showed the American auto manufacturers quality still mattered. I can remember as an example one 74 nova that I owned. It was garage kept only sunny day driving my non working wife drove. At 60K miles I had to replace the radiator, gas tank, and exhaust. Surface rust started to appear on the roof. Can’t imagine what would have happened if I drove it in the rain. At the same time I had a Toyota pickup that got the snow, salt, dirt roads from my job no rust. Quality slowly improved, not there yet in most cases.
