5 SPD for Tahoe

Since the H3 SUV has the 5 SPD option does anyone think the Tahoe will ever get a manual transmission?

If the Silverado doesn't have a "always" available manual (you only can get a five speed with 4.3 or 4.8) Then GM will never give the soccer mommies one.

I doubt they will ever give the Tahoe a Manual tranny. The H3 is nothing more than a Jeep Liberty in my opnion.

The H3 is based on the Colorado/Canyon Chassis.

5 speed in the Tahoe died with the 350 and 99 model year 2 door Tahoe. I doubt GM will ever do it because the current 5 speed is only rated for the 4.8L.

Actually the only Tahoes that ever had a manual tranny were a few 95 2-doors with the 5.7L TBI and some 95-99 with the 6.5L TD.

There are NO 96-up 5.7L Vortecs with 5-speeds in any 1/2 ton models (pickup or SUV).

I don't think there have ever been any 4-door Tahoes with manual transmissions of any year. The only possibility would be a 95.

The manual production # are falling quickly and more MFR's are going to button shift transmissions. For example the 06 Z06 Corvette will be having one. If volume is too low the MFR's will drop manuals in a heart beat.

You'll never see that in Semi's. The autos havent even been perfected, and most still require the clutch in first. No way, we won't see that happen

Cement trucks have been using auto's for years and garbage trucks too. Many new longhaul trucks are starting to use them now too. Automatics are going to be 100% in the near future.

And for the clutch there are some vehicles (imports) that have no clutch and paddle shifters.

Maybe it was the 2 dr Tahoes from Fleet that I remember seeing 5 speeds.

The 2006 Z06 Corvette is a manual. The 2006 Corvette convertible and coupe (non Z06) will be available with a manual or a paddle shift automatic.

 

I think that GM may put an automatic like that in future SS trucks and SUVs.

Unfortunately, manual transmissions are going the way of the dodo bird. Mainly, because of emissions and sales. The truth is there are not many die hard manual transmission customers left in this country. I just read an industry periodical a while back that New Venture Gear and ZF forecasted less than 10% of all vehicles below 19,000 GVWR will have manual transmissions by 2010.

 

I must admit, my next daily driver purchases will defiantly be automatics…..unless a Jeep Rubicon or Dodge Powerwagon should find it’s way into my driveway. The awkward shifting ZF in my HD has almost turned me into a manual trans hater.

Your right, 1995 was the last year for a manual in a full-size two door SUV, but the NV3500 5-speed was offered through the end of the 1998 model year in 1500 series trucks….even with 5.7L engines. The old body style GMT400 1999 “Classic” trucks build in Arlington, TX were only available with auto’s and girly push button 4wd. Here is my 1998 Z71 extended shorty with a 5.7L that I bought new in 1998. Believe me, I had to look high and low to find it back then. Pretty rare truck. My 01” HD with a 6 speed is pretty rare too.
