Newman acting a little imature

From Jaski.com:

Standing 'O' for Rusty at drivers meeting, except.... Robin Pemberton, NASCAR's vice president of competition, invited Rusty Wallace to the microphone within the first five minutes of the weekly prerace drivers meeting at Homestead on Sunday. Wallace, who went on to finish 13th on Sunday evening, drew a standing ovation from the drivers in the room. Everyone stood, with the exception of Penske Racing South teammate Ryan Newman, who has been at constant odds with the 1989 Cup champion."It's been a great ride," Wallace told his fellow drivers. "I can remember when I came in, it was [Cale] Yarborough, [David] Pearson, [Richard] Petty and [Dale] Earnhardt. Now those guys are all gone and you guys are all here. I'm looking forward to life after racing. And if I've roughed anybody up along the way, I'm sorry. I didn't really mean it, unless it paid more."

I would agree with you on that issue except for the fact that Wallace seems like he has never been a team player. He didn't get along with Mayfield either. Without knowing what really started that situation, it's really hard to judge. Maybe Wallace deserved it. His track record certainly says he might have. It will be interesting it see if Newman can get along with Busch.

Hecktorx. I agree with you to a point, but. Rusty is a legend. No I don't care for Rusty, but the man is a cup champion with 55 wins. He was a heck of a competitor. Showing respect for NASCAR and it's traditions is a matter of maturity. Newman has shown none. As a matter of fact if he ever does figure out you win the race on the last lap and not the first he may become unbeatable. Instead he drives the car into the ground(kinda like rusty) Anyway I think he could've stood up. IMO.

The sport has changed over the years and now with Brian in control I fear things will only get worse. Drivers nowadays don't seem to have to earn the respect they used to. Young drivers are given rides and think everything should be done their way. Ryan should have stood up. I don't care if he doesn't like him. If it wasn't for drivers like Rusty, Dale Sr, Cale, Richard, David, etc... NASCAR wouldn't be where it is today and Newman probably wouldn't be where he is.

I'll second that!! I kind of like Newman as a Cup driver, but am really disappointed with his lack of respect!

From Jayski.com

"UPDATE: Contrary to published reports, Ryan Newman, as well as his crew chief, Matt Borland, joined their fellow NASCAR NEXTEL Cup Series competitors in a standing ovation in honor of their Penske Racing South teammate Rusty Wallace during the driver's meeting for last Sunday's Ford 400 at Homestead-Miami Speedway. "I respect Rusty Wallace as a race car driver," Newman said. "And I put effort forward in recognizing that on Sunday."(Penske Racing PR)(11-24-2005)"
