AEM Brute Force

had my truck since june this summer. 05 5.3 just now starting to research parts. I just recently ordered flowmaster kit 17392. dual pipes out the side. i know a lot of people in here that dog flows but i had on my '90 bronco a couple of years ago and enjoyed them. looked at magnaflow first they have a kit with pipes out the side in front of the tire but only for extended cab. i wanted something that looks different.

anyway i guess that's beside the point of my post. I was looking at intakes, and came across AEM brute force intake. I was wondering if anybody has used or has any reviews of this? Compared to K&N, volant, etc?

Will an intake make the dealer give me crap about my warranty?

I put on the AEM on my truck and I like it. On the freeway I get about 2.5-3 more MPG. Also it is pretty quiet as far as intakes go. It only took about 25 minutes to install and at the same time I de-screened my MAF. It fits good and doesnt hit the radator fan shroud like my friends intake does. I like the fact that there is no oil to get sucked into my engine and get all over the sensors. I would suggest it.

What is the best way to de-screen a MAF?

fmjhp594. how much did you pay for yours and from where did you get?

btw- i just got my exhaust system installed. need to take some pics and get it up here. its perfect for me. sound is great, loud when i want it to be, not annoying at cruising speed. I'm happy. its flowmaster #17392.

To de-screen it I took it out and just simply took a small screwdriver to one of the little holes and twisted it and pryed out the screen. The screen is not bolted or glued in, it just fits in there snugly so you just have to pry it out carefully. Make sure that you dont touch one of the little sensor things when you put the screwdriver thru, there is plenty of room to miss them. The screen can not be reused once you take it out.

I got my intake from Summit Racing for $224. I found it cheaper somewhere else in New York, but the shipping made it cost more, plus from Summit I end up getting it the next day with ground shipping. I've got a Flowmaster 50 series on my truck and it made it sound deeper, not much louder. But if you down shift and let the engine slow you down it crackels and pops REAL nice  It sounds great doing that now! It does have more power, how much I dont know. I like the difference in the MPG so it was a good choice, now I'm going to get a wait4me tune here in about a month or so. That should really make a difference with it.

Thanks a lot. I really wanted something that i don't see everyday. I like looking at the back of my truck and not seeing any part of the exhaust. I think it'll look even better when i get a lift and some big tires right next to those tips (it might be a while before that happens  ). I am seriously considering buying the air intake now. I can tell i'm going to be spending a lot of money on this thing over the next couple of years. Truck parts are addicting.

Yes it is VERY addicting. I just bought a set of OEM mirrors yesterday $300, I have power mirrors right now, but I gain the turn signals in them, their heated, they auto dim, and they have 'curb assist' in reverse. best of all they are completly plug and play.

Back to your question about your warranty, ya it will void it if they find that IT had AnY part of causing a problem with your truck. so if you have a problem that deals with the air in the engine or sensors dealing with the air, then your warranty wont cover that exact repair, same goes if your exhaust causes something to go bad (like 02 sensors, maybe, on an extream fluke). but if your shocks squeak or some other BS then your warranty is all good. It is really easy to take in and out so if you have an issue just put your stock one back in. it only takes about 20-ish minutes.

  • 5 months later...

I put the Brute force intake and a flowmaster 40 series on my 2003 4.8l and it really brought it to life. I got a very noticable bump in power and the truck sounded great.

What is the benefit of descreening a MAF? Smoother air flow I assume.

I just installed my AEM Brute Force CAI yesterday and am satisfied. I had removed my K&N drop in and now my TB is gunked with tacky oily crap and have to go get some top end cleaner this weekend. AEM has the no oil dry flow filter...I like it.
