Does this door chime have to be this loud?

I have an '03 Suburban, and love everything about it except for one thing. (Well besidse the gas mileage) The problem I have with it is the warning chime.

 

My door chime is unusually loud and annoying, and goes off at everything. It goes crazy when the you turn the key to the acc position w/o a seatbelt, when you open the door, when you turn on the headlights w/o the key, etc. Now I know this is unusual because I have several friends with different year Tahoes, Yukon, and a Denali. They have commented how fast and loud my warning chimes are.

 

I am not a clueless soccer mom who needs to be yelled at by my car so I don't forget something!

 

At this point, I would do anything to completely get rid of all warning alarms in my truck. I've been told that replacing the stock stereo w/ aftermarket would eliminate the alarm. But I'm not sure if it's actually possible.

 

GM technicians... I know you hate to hear someone wanting to remove all warning chimes. (At least the local guys gave me the legal issue concerns along with ZERO help.) But I can't stand this anymore. Is there at least a way to at least change the pitch, volume or frequency of these alarms?

Get under the dash below steering wheel, there's a black box about 1"x3" touch and see if the pitch changes if it does just pull the box out. Worked for my 99 suburban

03 up use the BCM & Radio to control the chimes. You can turmn down the volume from the radio. Look in your owners manual.

I just disconnected my seatbelt warning chime by unplugging the connector that comes off the driver's seatbelt receptacle. It's a pain to get your hands in there with a screwdriver bewtween the seat and center console to undo the clip at the connector, but once it's off - it's heaven.

GM has a fix for the loud chimes that are coming from the Bose type radio system. They have a re-flash for the radio that does 2 things. First it lowers the volume of the chime and second it changes the volume settings so the settings are not "stacked" up at the lower end of the volume control. In other words you will have a little more control of the audio at the lower volume setting. less level jump for each click of the knob...

I am not sure of the part number of the flash, but talk to a service advisor and have him look it up under the radio system. First try this number 12572600, but I am not sure. This will make the chime much more normal. Mine was done under warranty.

Also make sure that you have the chime volume set as to the chime level adjustment found on page 3-137 of your owner manual.

 

And if they are willing, have them do the "dimming of the blue high beam indicator" It changes the brighness of the blue high beam indicator. I think the flash part number is 12572521.

Seriously, GMC, if you read this STOP TREATING ME AND EVERYONE ELSE LIKE A RETARD. I wear my belt, I know where my key is at all times and I am clever enough not to leave my headlights on... except for the fact that I actually cannot turn them off because of another useful Canadian mod that you have made. Now I live in the US the armed guard at the control point where I work thanks you for that particular piece of genius as I burn his retinas out every time I am on nights.

 

Bottom line is, read the post above from a few years ago and follow the pictures about cutting the wire. Then, instead of cutting anything actually take off the silver plate that guards the steering column, unplug all 3 of the connectors on that flat black box, pull it out, open it, remove the chime entirely by use of a $20 soldering iron, reassemble. 20 minutes; quiet as a mouse. My car is now a mute. Hooray!

 

Reeeelaaax.

 

I love the rest of my Yukon. Anyone wanna help me kill the auto-lights system?

Doesn't actually shut them off on an '02. Mashing it 4 times just gives you full manual control. Which would be AWESOME...If it didn't reset back to default every time you start the truck

my mom had the shop disconnect the chime in her 1994 Ford Taurus and she manages to kill her battery at least twice a month from leaving either the headlights or the interior lights on, because there is no chime to remind her..

 

 

now given never vehicles have a 20 min battery saver time out on this stuff..

 

 

but it's still an amusing thread to me.. I know mine chimes, but frankly i tune it out.. doesn't bother me..

Chimes never bothered me THAT much.

 

But the one in my wife's Camry does. The seatbelt chime is DAMN loud. And it never shuts off. Matter of fact, after about 20 seconds it goes from bing bing bing bing to BINGBINGBINGBINGBING. And that's from pulling her car around back to the shop...30 seconds and I'm ready to stick a screwdriver into my ear.

What worked for me was to unplug the onstar door Chime amp harness that's right behind the radio. Plug it back in and it resets the chime level and even stopped the radio from emitting a high pitch whine out of the onstar speaker. If it gets moved loud chime and whine come back. I don't know if it's replaceable from GM or Onstar.
